A very embarrassing experience!
Visited Barsana a few weeks ago as the reviews & menu stated they serve dosa. Drove all the way to learn they no longer serve dosa.
Thought I'd try it again as I was passing by today. I wanted to order the sev Puri with masala tea. Manager invited us in (he wasn't bothered about whether a booking was made or not as the restaurant was empty). After ordering, the waitress came back and informed me the manager told her they don't take orders less than £15 whereas mine was £10. Forcing me to leave. No where is this bizarre policy stated on their website or menu.
This policy is very strange as I've never experienced something so bizarre like this before. It was 7:30pm on a Sunday and they only had 1 table occupied.
A very disappointing experience, I would not recommend Barsana at all based on my 2 very poor experiences. Save yourself the potential embarrassment, the staff know nothing about good service.
Also had paid for parking which was a waste.
To see how poor their service actually is, read their reply to my review. In no way is this restaurant "fine dining", that is a laughable claim. You mention no where that £15 is minimum order. Your restaurant was empty when I arrived, reserving a table would've made no difference to your poor service. Avoid this place at all costs, so many better...

Dining at Barsana in Birmingham is like stepping into a warm embrace of nostalgia and comfort. This restaurant doesn’t just serve food—it offers an experience that feels like a cozy meal back at home with family.
The ambiance is charming, with subtle Indian decor that adds to the authentic feel without being overwhelming. The aromas wafting from the kitchen immediately take you back to the streets of India, where the rich smells of spices fill the air.
The service was another highlight. The staff were attentive and made us feel like part of the family, eager to share their knowledge of the dishes and ensure we had everything we needed. It’s clear that they take pride in not just the food but in making sure every guest feels welcome and cared for.
We ended our meal with the GulabJamun the perfect end to a hearty meal. It’s hard to find a place that replicates the feeling of eating at home, but Barsana does just that with a touch of elegance and authenticity.
In a bustling city like Birmingham, Barsana is a sanctuary for those who crave the warmth of home-cooked Indian food. Whether you're gathering with friends or looking for a quiet meal, this place delivers on both flavor and comfort, making it a must-visit for anyone who loves...
Read moreDon't be fooled by the budget restaurant signage out front, this Indian restaurant has a far more premium feel inside - this place makes for a good location for a celebration or to bring a date.
Book in advance at the usual busy times - we didn't have to on a Friday lunchtime when it was virtually empty. This meant fast service and timely delivery of food.
There were a lot of vegan dishes on the menu - the majority in fact. Usually Indian restaurants do well to cater for vegan requirements but here, the majority of items on the menu thankfully are vegan by default. Of particular note are the multiple (multiple!) vegan naans: with butter, garlic and chilli flavours to choose from. Such rare joy as other Indian restaurants make you believe dairy is necessary for a good naan which is patently not the case.
The chefs here demonstrate such skill with their craft. We had tarka daal, chana masala and a potato dish along with various naans - all well worth ordering. Their drink selection is nice too - managed to get a strawberry mojito (pictured) which was excellent to complement the (relatively mild) heat of the food.
Overall, a great service to Birmingham's vegan scene and comes highly...
