A Fantastic Family Dining Experience at Bhoj Raj
Last Saturday evening, my wife and I had the pleasure of dining here again with our son, daughter-in-law, and two grandchildren. Having visited many times before, we already knew we were in for a treat—but once again, the team exceeded our expectations.
From the moment we arrived, we were greeted like old friends. We were quickly seated, and our drinks orders were taken and promptly delivered, the pints of Cobra were especially refreshing in the warm weather!
We took our time chatting and unwinding before ordering crispy, fresh poppadoms, served with a selection of delicious sauces. Then came the starters—a fantastic variety, including tender, flavorful tandoori lamb chops, a regional fish dish, and classics like seekh kebabs and prawn puris. Every dish was beautifully prepared, and the whole table agreed that the food was outstanding. The service throughout was attentive and seamless, with our waitress checking in regularly to ensure we had everything we needed. The combination of fantastic food, warm hospitality, and a relaxed atmosphere makes Bhoj Raj a true gem. Being local, we love that we can walk here, enjoy a drink or two, and not worry about taxis or driving. A huge thank you to the team for another memorable meal, we’ll be back soon!
Bhoj Raj - A Hidden Gem in Garretts Green
My wife and I recently had the pleasure of dining at Bhoj Raj, an Indian restaurant run by the talented husband and wife team, Bash and Deepa. Intrigued by the numerous positive reviews, we decided to give this new establishment in Garretts Green a try. From the moment we stepped inside, we knew we were in for a treat.
The restaurant itself was small yet beautifully maintained, exuding an aura of cleanliness and sophistication. With only 24 covers, it provided an intimate and cozy atmosphere. Arriving early on a Saturday night, we found ourselves to be the only customers at the time. Bash warmly welcomed us by addressing us by our names, which we assumed he retrieved from our booking. He promptly seated us at a lovely table for two, making us feel like valued guests.
Bash's enthusiasm and friendly demeanor set the tone for the evening. He engaged us in conversation, ensuring we felt right at home. We were promptly offered the menu upon being seated, and our drink orders were taken. The restaurant boasted an impressive selection of beverages, including draught Cobra and Carling beers, as well as a variety of wines and spirits, all reasonably priced.
To start our culinary journey, we opted for poppadoms and dips. The poppadoms were wonderfully fresh and accompanied by delicious dips. In fact, they were so enjoyable that we could have made a meal out of them alone. For our starters, I chose the chicken pakora while my wife opted for the onion bhajis. Both dishes arrived as generous portions, complete with fresh salad and delectable sauces. The flavors were simply sublime, leaving us thoroughly impressed.
Throughout the meal, Bash proved to be the epitome of a genial host. He constantly checked on us, ensuring that everything met our satisfaction. He even shared anecdotes about his history and experience, making our dining experience all the more memorable.
For our main courses, we both indulged in one of the many traditional curries on the menu. Served piping hot, the curries were bursting with authentic flavors. The portions were incredibly generous, accompanied by a heavenly garlic naan bread. The quality of the dishes surpassed our expectations, and we were unable to finish our meals. Thankfully, the restaurant kindly provided us with a doggy bag to take the remaining portions home.
In conclusion, our evening at Bhoj Raj was nothing short of fantastic. The attentive service, exquisite flavors, and welcoming atmosphere made for an unforgettable dining experience. We wholeheartedly recommend this hidden gem to anyone in search of a remarkable Indian cuisine adventure. Give it a try, and you won't be...
Read moreIn response. Yes, the food was eaten, because it was paid for, that’s the idea. I didn’t say it was inedible, I said it was tasteless, in regard to the curry, because it really was when you consider the taste of a curry elsewhere or at home. The portion sizes were small, you don’t argue that so no issue there. Also, it wasn’t chilli sauce or any sauce in fact, it was paste, out of the tube type. We didn’t order poppadoms either, we were asked if we wanted them, of course we expected to pay for them, but not for a dip, as nowhere else we eat charge for dips. The starter was very nice, as stated. You are however incorrect in saying I said I’d return, you said thanks and to pop in again, I smiled and said goodbye. The fact remains, £48 down and extremely unsatisfactory food. I stand by my statement about way better just as local, and I do still wonder about SOME of the reviews I’ve read about your place, maybe I came on a bad day.
To respond, again. Nobody mentioned unlimited helpings, nor would anybody want them at such quality. This platform is for reviewing places you’ve been to, I’ve done that, honestly. As stated, perhaps I came on a bad day but we won’t know because I won’t return. And of course you charge for poppadoms, that’s a given, but if you’re charging extra for dips, you should tell the customer, that’s just good customer service. You up can’t say you appreciate feedback and then dump on people giving it.
Small portions, not reflected by price, no chilli sauce, overcooked chips, tasteless lamb bhuna and hidden charges for the chutney that comes with the poppadoms which consist of a small bowl of diced onion and a yogurt dip. I asked for chilli sauce and was given a shot sized container of chilli paste. The mixed grill starter was quite nice though. There’s way better curry houses just as local as this place. Wondering if maybe some of the reviews on here are posted following request for a little percentage off of the...
Read moreWell where do we start, chicken was like rubber that had been dried out for a week, tandoori mixed grill.was pathetic, scraps of chicken probably left over from friday same as chicken in the tikka masala, tasted like rubber, asked for large mint sauce and it came in a cardboard container which was like water no taste, nan bread asked to be well done and it was anaemic only well done on a small part, now with a tandoori mixed grill you normally get chicken, lamb and a chicken leg bit this had a severe lack of chicken, wouldn't recommend to anybody that wants a decent meal, no flavour, no taste and poor beyond belief and a total waste of money, don't open a curry house if you don't know how to cook one, service poor, food poor and don't even bother Well bash thanks for the reply 🙄 your food is way beyond standard and everything that was sent was very poor quality. Chicken was like rubber and so what if we have different gastronomic qualities, your food is poor full stop and where you mentioned in the mixed, there was no full chicken breast or onion bhaji, the chicken was so small we needed glasses to see it. Salad also looked like it was last weeks, no onions for the poppadoms, poor standards beyond belief, so don't try and talk to me in a condescending manner just because you've been told your food isn't anywhere near the standards required. Thanks bash enjoy...
