More than just a cafe, 'Kath's Cafe' is a hub for the local community of Maypole, Druids Heath and surrounding areas. For me personally, I have been able to find new friends who I chat to daily, and since I retired, I go there every day apart from Tuesday when it's closed. Kath and her staff are not only great cooks but also lovely people. Over the years, I've eaten at many cafes in Birmingham, but I can honestly say non compared to 'Kath's Cafe' for taste, presentation, portions, and menu variety. I became a vegetarian about 3 years ago, and I have to say there's a good choice of veggie options on the menu. My favourite at the moment is a Vegetarian Roast meal which includes:- Roasties (crispy), Peas, Carrots, Sweetcorn, Mushrooms, Linda McCartney Sausages, Yorkshire Pudding (delicious), bread & butter plus decaffeinated tea (see photo). Previous favourites of mine have been a vegetarian omelette, which included spinach, sweetcorn, mushrooms & and peppers. For a quick snack, I love the cheese & and mushroom panini. The toasted sarnie's are also delicious. Although I'm a vegetarian now I know the meat meals were also excellent. Good car parking. A baby seat is also available. There's also a couple of tables outside which can accommodate 6 people. It tends to get busy Friday to Sunday, especially when there's a lot of Uber orders, but it's well worth the wait. There is a toilet in the cafe. One more thing which is better than a lot of other cafes is the opening times which is earlier than a lot - 7am - last orders at 2:30pm Open every day apart from Tuesday. I want to thank Kath for the cafe and maintaining such high-quality standards. Since I last wrote on this review, Kath has added to the menu, which I'm especially pleased being a vegetarian. Qourn chilli with either rice or chips. Vegetarian Lasagne with salad (I usually have it with chips instead) No meat chicken with veg. And the latest is delight Kath as produced is Detox Soup with nice pepper taste. Another vegan special added to the menu today 'Vegan chicken curry & rice. Vegan Spaghetti bolognese. Spinach & Chickpea Lentil Dhaal. Delicious. I wrote this review in 2022, and so now, in 2025, some of the vegan meals may...
Read moreStopped in the Maypole Travelodge for a couple of nights to visit Warwick Castle and the Black Country Museum. I do love supporting local independent businesses so what a find Kath's Cafe was for breakfast which was just around the corner from the hotel. Faultless breakfast at a price most visitors from the south would be shocked at. A good gauge quality is a fried egg, the eggs on my full english were white as driven snow, sealed with a soft yoke, cooked perfectly. Judging by the popularity Kath's Cafe, it's well supported by the locals and so it should be for the quality, price and the speedy service of the wonderfully friendly staff..... I have informed family & friends of this gem and I will be certainly be back next time I visit...
Read moreThe food is always cooked to perfection everything I’ve tried is to a good standard, it’s the only cafe around I know of that does an Irish breakfast! And the apple pies make you not want to move afterwards. The women behind the counter whom I assume is Kathy is very friendly but not over bearing makes everybody smile. The cafe is very homely and as I’ve already said you don’t want to leave afterwards. The only downside is the cafe is popular and mega busy all the time so make sure...
