This is where you get breakfast if you stay at the Premier Inn. First challenge was simply finding out what to do and where to go. Walking in at the children's play area, no indication of where to go to 'book in'. It's actually through the restaurant, up the stairs and to the plinth at the front door. No staff at all until I got there and found a guy behind the bar. Having paid I was then left to find a table. Nearly every one of them was set up in long rows...I picked the end of a row and set myself up. I got everything there and saw a ' reserved' sign at the other end. I moved to the only table for 2 which was in a corner. Then I noticed that ALL the other rows around me are reserved... Then a waitress appeared and I asked if there were any unreserved tables for 1or2? She took me to a table for 4 near the children's play area....a disabled elderly couple tried to go up the stairs to find a table but couldn't (I saw a lift later on). Continental breakfast was absolutely fine, the cooked breakfast looked totally unappetising with the eggs sitting there when I got there and still there under the heat lamp an hour later. Yes, it's Christmas and you are busy but you still have single travelers and couples to cater for. You still have customers who haven't been before. Think about them!

I grew up coming to gynsills every weekend with my family & it’s always had a special place in my heart, but today I have been for some food with family for the first time in many years & boy has it gone down hill, the building itself on entrance needs much work doing to it, rotten windows etc etc, the outdoor play area that I have fond memories of looks very aged & grotty, the service we received today was far below par & the food was just about edible, knives & forks covered in food residue, no sauces at table, cold coffees were provided & even after being changed weren’t much better, chips where riddled with bad bits of potato, menus & tables were filthy & there were staff standing around chatting & laughing whilst there where tables full of used plates etc, couldn’t get cold drinks on tap had to have bottles, cakes that were paid for were out of stock, onion rings (side) bought out 10 minutes before the meal, overall not a good experience & we won’t be returning, such a shame as it’s always been a family favourite.

I really do like this place but the cleanliness of the tables are not the best in my opinion, when leaning on the tables you lift your arms back up and its very sticky. I know it gets very busy and its hard to keep on top of things with all the customers and so I understand sometimes people may be missed. But an older couple walked in after us and they got a sprayed table and a wipe down where as we just got sat onto a dirty sticky table. Apart from that I dont have any other complaints, staff members are nice and the food is good. Small area for younger children to play around in and some machines for adults. Nice outdoor area as well. Update... the booking system might as well be scrapped. I have children and one of my child likes to be away from crowded areas as she's on the spectrum, we booked a child area close to the play area and when we arrived we were seated in a very crowded area know where near the play area. We come every Sunday and spend atleast £50 a time, I think soon we will start looking else where.

We stayed at the premier inn attached to this restaurant on the 7th and 8th March we had travelled from Plymouth to spend time with family, we went for breakfast on the morning of the 8th and decided to just have the standard £7.49 breakfast which was just the hot food buffet, when we got to the counter to pay I asked for the hot food buffet for 2 people, the man who I believe is the manager who was serving tried to charge for the 10.99 buffet, I told him I just wanted the hot food buffet and not the premier inn price. Well you would of thought I was asking for his right kidney, talk about rude, he went on to say that the continental wasn’t included and that tea coffee and juice wasn’t included which we already knew, I told him we were happy just to have the hot food buffet. He gave us the look of disgust. We went and sat at a table but there was no cutlery so I asked him if we could have some, he said it’s on the table which I pointed to the table and said there isn’t any on the table, he literally passed me the cutlery in the pot in an aggressive manner and said there you now have some. The food was sub standard had to wait on eggs, bacon was hard and over cooked, the rest was ok but not very hot, We ate what we got and left, not a very nice experience. The man who served me was a tall slim man who was dressed in black trousers and a dark jumper, I wish I had asked for his name, maybe this man could take a few customer service lessons and not be rude with customers. We went in the next day reluctantly and had breakfast again this time we have the 10.99 breakfast, the cups were filthy still had coffee or tea marks in them, the glasses were filthy they had smudges on them, I had to ask for clean cups and glasses along with some other people. Food again wasn’t brilliant had to wait on eggs again, there was a queue of about 9 people behind me and they bought out 4 fried eggs not the best breakfast again but it filled a hole. On the plus side there was a lovely young lady who served us didn’t get her name but she called people babe, she was happy cheerful and lovely, a better experience with customer service for us on the 2nd day...

I feel compelled to share my recent experience at this restaurant so others can avoid the same mistake. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted not with a warm welcome, but with an overwhelmingly stale, musty smell that lingered throughout the entire dining area. It was immediately off-putting and made us question the cleanliness and freshness of the place.

Unfortunately, things only went downhill from there.

We were begrudgingly acknowledged by the staff, who seemed more annoyed than interested in actually serving us. Not a smile or a polite word – just a cold, indifferent attitude that made us feel like we were inconveniencing them by simply being there. When we asked for a table, there was no attempt at customer service or hospitality, just a vague wave and a muttered instruction.

We also asked for ice and lemon for our drinks, which we were told they "don't have any." No explanation, no alternative – just a dismissive tone, as if we were being unreasonable for even asking.

What truly stunned us, however, was what we learned afterward. We were staying at a nearby Premier Inn, and when we mentioned to the manager that we had dinner plans at this particular restaurant, she and her staff strongly advised us not to eat there. Apparently, they’ve had multiple complaints from previous guests about poor service, and overall unpleasant experiences. I only wish we’d spoken to them before we went, as it would have saved us time, money, and a thoroughly unpleasant evening.

There was nothing about our visit that could redeem the experience. Between the foul smell, the rude and uninterested staff, the unhygienic conditions, and the lack of even basic service offerings like ice or lemon, I honestly cannot think of a single reason to return.

It’s rare to find a place where everything goes wrong, but this restaurant managed to hit every low note. If you're considering dining here – don't. There are plenty of other places nearby where your business will be appreciated and your basic...

I brought my little girl for a mum and daughter dinner at gynsills this evening, it was my first visit in a couple of years & it was pretty shocking. The service was pretty bad from start to finish. We had to wait to be seated because we had our table booked whilst people with no booking were told to come straight in and chose any table. When we were eventually given our table it wasn't even a reserved one and was grubby and sticky. We asked to move to a different table closer to the play area and that was equally sticky and grubby! The food arrived relatively quickly but it was a mission to get someone to serve us ice cream for my little girl. We waited 10 minutes at the ice-cream counter to be told by the quite rude manager that they would serve us at the bar. So we waited another 5 minutes at the bar and then gave up. Came back to the table and realised I could order the ice-cream on the app but it took 15 minutes for it to come once ordered! 30 minutes is a bit ridiculous to get two scoops of ice cream. When the ice cream was finally delivered the wooden spoon snapped in the ice-cream & I literally couldn't find a single member of staff on the floor to get us another spoon! I had to queue at the carvery station and ask the chap there to get me one (by which time the ice-cream was half melted!). No one came to clear our plates after we had eaten so they sat there for over an hour and we had to eat our ice cream around them. The food was warm but tasteless, the tables were grubby, the staff were unhelpful & the outdoor play area was filled with teenagers who didn't move when my 5 year old tried to get on the slide. I absolutely will not be returning to Gynsills again, which is a shame as it used to be a very nice...
