Arrived at 6:10 and looked promising. Greeted at the bar and was asked to sit at our table which was OK by us. As we were the only ones in at that time, the atmosphere was very sterile, especially with the cheap paper table coverings. but as this was our first family night out since March and the lockdownwe didn't know what to expect. I enquired about the eat out to help out scheme and if they were participating and they were, so great for us!! Ordered a round of drinks which was delivered quite promptly but that was when the service went slow. Had to call someone over to ask for popudums. Then only after they were consumed did he take our food order. ( I even got him to repeat the order back to confirm as I wasn't over confident.) We got our starters at 7pm some 50 minutes after arriving and at that time, some of the tables which arrived were finishing there mains.... I ordered a jug water and had to ask twice for glasses and ice, but took me going to the bar(nobody there) and finally finding someone near the kitchen who finally gave us some glasses and 4 cubes of ice!!! Sitting looking at our empty starter plates for 20 minutes, the kids were getting restless and I asked to be cleared and our mains as soon as possible. Another 20 minutes passed and we finally got our meals. Missing was 3 rice and a side order was incorrect. Even after the read back!! Now I was starting to loose faith.... Especially when 5 minutes passed and I had to ask for cutlery to eat..... As the food was ok I wasn't going to flip too much, but having an offer which is supposed to get more custom returning to out hospitality industry after the pandemic lockdown, Shant's is failing drastically. I felt sorry for the young lady, who was obviously distressed being forced to deliver an offer in those circumstances. Needed at least 1 other team member. I espressed my views about the food and service offer to the waiter, who I found out was actually the manager!! who gave me a fake apology and no other incentive for me to return, which we probably won't.. I gave it 1 star, purely as the food was ok, but I can cook a nice meal at home. Food is only a small part of the overall eating out experience, isn't it? It...
Read more“The food was so late I had to do take away” POOR TIME MANAGEMENT - BELOW EXPECTATIONS – VERY DISAPPOINTED
On their website they state “In these uncertain times whereby personal compromises become a necessity, we at Sand’s offer no such compromise” unfortunately my experience wasn’t to a high standard as the website would have you believe.
Issues with the service: The venue was pre-booked for a bridal shower/hen do evening, and a table set for 20. We came around 6:30 but was served food around 8:40. It took around 40 mins from arrival before anyone took our order. The restaurant seats maybe 35-40 people. Since we occupied around half their seating you would hope that they would have been prepared. They actually served 4 couples before my table was served even though most of them came in a good while after we were seated. By 8.40 half of our group had been served for some reason!
I had to chase down my food. I was told twice that my food was coming “now.” It didn’t. My taxi that they booked arrived before my food. I got my full meal before my table did because I had to rush out, and the other half the group who had already been served, were finishing their food by the time I left!!!!!
Issues with the food: I ordered Chicken Tikka Massala, boiled rice and garlic naan which came to £12.40.
The Chicken tikka was mostly sauce - the flavour was alright but was an unusual bright red (brighter than the picture) and the rice was slightly undercooked. The portion of the rice was less than half of the amount in the picture, which doesn’t work with the ratio of the (mostly sauce) meat dish they gave. The naan was quite flat (it was closer to Roti than what I’d expect for naan) and slightly smaller than a medium sized plate for £2.75- oh yes and there was a bit of coal on it, but at least that shows the cooking method. The consistency of the naan was nice but I don’t think that it was worth my £2.75.
Scoring: Value for money – 1.5/ 5 Food – 2.5/5 Service - 0.5/5 Venue 5/5
Advice: Don’t go as a group and be...
Read moreOk let me start with the bill and this is for 2 people as a take away….Veg Korma £6.75, Tandoori Mixed Grill £12.95, Lamb Biryani £8.45, Tandoori Chicken £7.95 and Cheese Naan x 2 £5.50 + discount -£4.18 brining a total of £37.42…....and I was still hungry. The Veg Korma was so sweet I thought it was a dessert. It tasted like it came out of a bottle from Tesco. The Tandoori Mixed grill was 6 pieces of meat all chucked into a bag and by time I got home it was mashed up n squashed. Any other restaurant would have put it into a foil tray and was it really worth that price? And it tells you on the menu this is for 2 people. Really? This wont even fill my 5 year old nephew The Lamb Biryani was tasty but out of the whole tray there was only 4 pieces of lamb approx size 1cm3. really only 4 pieces? Tandoori chicken this really disappointed me as it was only 2 pieces of chicken legs for £7.95 and it was over cooked. The chicken was all dry in the middle. The cheese naan was ok.
We did not go to this place when it was busy we went as soon as it opened so they had no excuse why the food and service was this poor. But a colleague of mine has told me it’s just there take away service is like that. If you go in then it’s a lot better. But I still think its no excuse they need to...
