Hulton Arms — Restaurant in Bolton

GREAT pub , shame about the landlord ! He’s never there, does not give a dam about the place , concentrates on his other pubs to make them perfect and the Hulton Arms gets left out . The toilet seats in the ladies are the wrong size and fall off ( so I’ve been told) , the leather chairs around the bar area have seen better days and are falling apart , there are several light bulbs out , damp areas on ceiling. No music system as such , they use Spotify if the computer which is as old as the pub will work ! In desperate need of a coat of paint and bar area needs a varnish . AND to top it all off ,,,, The “Gin bar” which has about 8 types , he has the balls to charge £8 for a double!,, WOW 😯, if he wants to charge prices like that he needs to move to Manchester town centre!. It is a locals pub they do not drink that because of the price . Scandalous . You cannot use the the card machine unless you spend a tenner !,,,, WHAT??? Is this even legal?

Putting all this aside , the manager , the staff etc all make the place extremely friendly and easy going locals who welcome you and speak to you . Dog friendly atmosphere. I will definitely visit this pub again and chat with the locals who have quite some stories to tell , funny people who are so down to earth and warm hearted . But it could do with a...

Never really write reviews, I’ve never really seen the point however I think people should stay clear of this pub. If you want a good pint and a clean table to sit at then DONT GO HERE. Empty glasses everywhere. Comes to something when the lovely lady doing the karaoke was cleaning up the glasses and putting them on the bar for her. But then lazy bones was just letting them pile up. The manager came in well I didn’t know she was the manager at the time. It was only because a young group had tried to chat up her daughter at the bar and got told she was 14 (she did look older). Poor group was in shock that they had just mistakened a 14 year old. Best bit was that “The manager” of the pub was then buying her 14 year old SHOTS. I seen it with my own eyes and seen the young group in disbelief as they had just been told off for one of them trying to chat her up. No wonder they thought she was 18! I've worked in hospitality and catering most of my life. This is the visit time coming to you pub for food and drink, when I enter the guy was very helpful. Me and my partner join our party, then we chosen our dishes. We placed our order and I just literally looked at the pizza section so I went for cock n bull and a side of chips as well, My partner order the chilli half and half. Our meals came and mine wasn't a pizza it was like a grill dish with chips and peas, one of my family member said there was a grill cock and bull didn't the server ask you which one you wanted and I said no the steak was tough didn't really melt in the mouth, my partner chilli was just a taste of spice over powering the other flavour of the dish. I didn't say anything as I was hungry and my partner just ate the chips.

I think maybe going forward is to get the staff to ask if it's the right meal and section if there is too items named exactly the same and also desserts wise ask if they like custard, ice cream or cream, instead of your guest just guessing what...
