Let me tell you about Lal Qila, the place where your taste buds go on a joyride while your stomach high-fives you for making the right decision. Strap in, folks – this review's gonna be spicier than the Chicken Jalfrezi.
First off, the starters. Let’s talk about that Chicken Shish Kebab laced with cheese. Now, I’m not saying this dish singlehandedly solved my life problems, but it sure made them irrelevant for a solid 15 minutes. Imagine a kebab so juicy that you consider writing it a love letter, then realize it’s already written one to your taste buds…in cheese.
Then comes the Lamb Shish Kebab. If this kebab was a person, it would be the guy who walks into the gym and instantly bench presses 300 pounds without breaking a sweat. It’s packed with flavor, tender enough to convert even the most stubborn of vegetarians – or at least make them reconsider their life choices.
Oh, and the Lamb Chops. These bad boys are so tender they probably get misty-eyed during sad movies. They practically slid off the bone and into my heart. If there were an award for "Best Supporting Chop," they’d win it every time.
Now, onto the mains. Lamb Achari. Mind-blowing. I’m not even sure what happened, but I might have blacked out for a second from the sheer explosion of flavors. This lamb achari came in like a wrecking ball, took my taste buds hostage, and then proceeded to negotiate with my stomach in the best way possible. I might name my firstborn after it.
Chicken Tikka Masala – this was the Beyoncé of the meal. A superstar. Every bite was a hit single, smooth, creamy, and so good it made me question why I don’t eat tikka masala for every meal of my life. Frankly, I could have danced all night with this dish.
And the Chicken Jalfrezi? Oh, it was a firecracker! Spicy enough to let you know it’s the boss, but not so much that you need to call the fire department. It's the kind of dish that makes you feel like a champion after finishing it – I’m pretty sure I heard Eye of the Tiger playing in the background.
The Naans? Fluffier than a cloud on a sugar high. They practically melted in my mouth and were perfect for mopping up the sauces like a professional food sponge.
And the chips? Let me tell you, these weren’t just chips, they were potato-based magic. Crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside – I’m still questioning whether they were made by some sort of culinary sorcerer.
To wash it all down, I had the holy trinity: Irn Bru and Coke. Because when you’re taking your taste buds on a rollercoaster, you need to pair it with some fizzy magic. Honestly, the Irn Bru was the wild card of the night – as unpredictable as the meal itself.
In conclusion, Lal Qila is a culinary utopia. I left that place a different person – a better person. 10/10, I’ll be back soon, possibly with a shrine dedicated to their...
Read moreI visited Lal Qila in Bolton yesterday with my family as a birthday treat. I used to really enjoy going to the Lal Qila on Wilmslow Road, so I thought we’d give this one a try — but unfortunately, it was a big disappointment.
From the moment we walked in, the experience started off poorly. The waitress who greeted us didn’t smile or say hello, and instead just asked how many people we were. She looked so miserable that it immediately set a negative tone for the evening.
We ordered the special Tawa Grill, expecting it to include chicken karahi as most tawa grills do, but it didn’t. We had to order the naan separately too. The food itself was disappointing — the chicken tikka was undercooked, the wings had a strange smell, and the fish was overly oily. My husband, who was really looking forward to the karahi, ended up ordering one on the side, but by that point, the experience had already been spoiled.
Overall, our visit was really underwhelming. Between the waitress’s indifferent attitude and the poor quality of the food, I don’t think we’ll be...
Read moreFirst time visit with 8 friends. Lovely clean restaurant dining area and toilets. Pakistan/Punjab food served here so we ordered a selection of the grilled chicken fillets, chicken and lamb kebabs. Poppadoms, chutneys etc all very nice but special mention for the kebabs. They were different, full of fresh herbs etc and I'm told the chicken is mixed with cheese for a rich creamy taste. Superb. The mains were a mukni lamb (I think) which is meant to taste salty and it was, but was great flavour..We also had some chicken and a portion of daal too, all served desi style on the bone with naan and roti to go with it. Sadly we also had fries, not traditional but nice and fresh not too thin. The food was excellent and although the restaurant was getting busy the staff were all over things, great service, no waiting and the young lady serving was really helpful and friendly. In short, nothing was too much trouble, the food was excellent and I'm coming back soon. Thank you Lal Quila, great food in smart tidy...
