The Spread Eagle has been one of my favorite stop-offs around the village over the years. In recent years landlords have come and gone but during that period unfortunately it went downhill. Unwelcoming, scruffy looking, poor selection of beers, unfriendly staff and questionable clientele so I stopped going in. However on Sunday myself and a friend decided to go in for a drink. I'm so glad I did. The pub looks smart, the manageress was so welcoming (with a smile and conversation which you rarely get these days!), the beer selection had improved, we had a special edition beer, Birra Moretti Sale Di Mare, I don't really drink lagers but what a fantastic beer, a sea salted smooth almost craft like beer. They also had other craft beer on tap. We didn't eat but saw the food coming out, I have to say it looked great, decent portions, steaming hot and well presented. From what I saw every person cleared their plate. I did look at the menu and it had a good choice. The pub was pretty busy with a great mix of clientele. I believe also the beer garden has been renovated. All in all a great experience and I will be back, next time to eat...
Read moreNot been to the Spread Eagle since I worked at Eagley mills 25 years ago !! Itâs been updated but not too much that itâs lost itâs identity. Itâs still a fabulous trendy local. We had a lovely meal, a tasty pate to start which was served with toasted crusty bread and a really fruity chutney. For my main I had fish & chips with mushy peas and a fabulous homemade tartar sauce. Too much for me but I did manage to eat all the fish, it was so fresh and the chips were perfect but there were too many for me ! My friend had cheese & onion pie which was really good and again she didnât eat all her chips, there were too many ! Perfect portions if you have a really good appetite ! To complement our meal we had the house Sauvignon blanc, the same brand as weâve had at a much more expensive restaurant so a really nice wine at a fab price ! Top marks to the chef and to the staff who were perfectly attentive ! Weâll...

The food was hot and delicious delivered to our table quickly and with lots of gravy vegetables were fresh and well presented.
