I know standards across 'spoons can vary, but this comment took the biscuit. Ordered a rare steak. Paid extra for the small jug of pepper sauce. First steak visibly blackened on the outside, a chewy tough deep brown throughout. "Excuse me this isn't rare" "no problem sir, ill get you a fresh RARE steak." The next steak arrived, and wasn't charred like the first one, but suspiciously no juices on the plate and cutting into it revealed it wasnt rare. So embarrassingly we had to stop the waiter and point out, this still isnt rare. At this point we were informed you can't have another steak, and when i pointed out anyone can plainly see it's not pink and no juices, the waiter pointed out he wasnt a chef. Fair enough, he's not dressed as a chef and isnt working in a kitchen. Which makes the next line priceless. "it must be a problem with the steaks" I actually laughed, what are they flammable or something? Thankfully the waiter skilfully diffused the situation with that comedy line, delivered with a slightly antagonised expression on his face. Upon removing the plate to take it back to the kitchen, he wouldn't let us keep the sauce. "but we paid extra for that and want to keep it" The sauce was promptly whipped away with the rest of the food. The manager, to his credit was very apologetic and made thinge right for the member of our party given the...
Read moreAbsolutely disgusting! Walked in with my two young children and other family members. The place was a sham! Every single table was full of dirty plates, used glasses and rubbish everywhere. We had to clear the table our self, to where a staff member saw and 'wiped' the table. It was that filthy I had to go over it with baby wipes. Other customers that had come in just after us also had to clear their own tables and asked for baby wipes to clean their table down. When ordering food it took around 20 minutes to be served at the bar. I over saw a staff member being very rude to a customer when he was trying to order his food. To where she started to scream on top note in his face, smashed a glass on the floor and ran off to the kitchen. Once I finally got served me and my family managed to get our food. (kitchen staff was polite and helpful). However the state of the place was disgusting and the bar staff bare one female was very rude and slagged customers off when they wasn't there. If this is how you let your staff treat customers then you need to have a look how you...
Read moreI've been to a lot of Wetherspoons around the country and this one, my local, is almost as bad as the one in Rhyl.
Just fancied a few nibbles with my family and the pizzas had uncooked dough and the chicken strips although OK, one had been re-cooked (tough and chewy) which is a big no-no with chicken.
It's not the first time I've had a bad experience here. Why can't they do it properly, it's not difficult and the place was not very busy so the kitchen have no excuses. The pizza oven needs to be at the correct temperature to cook a pizza properly, the ones I was served looked like they were heated up in a dry frying pan.
There was a quiz night in progress too probably in an attempt to drum up business because it's so quiet but the guy calling out the questions sounded like an 80's lakeside darts MC or a WWF wrestler in a pre-match interview with loud music and jingles, couldn't even understand what he was saying. Ghastly.
I will go to the Sir Henry Tate in Chorley next time and avoid this...
