We have been before for meals and found them ok but we were really disappointed with the meal that we had this time. We went on Monday at about 2.30pm and the pub was relatively empty, we ordered the BBQ burger and the Doom Bar Pie, both with chips. The Main part of the meal was nice i.e. the burger and pie but the chips left a lot to be desired. I really suspect that the chef had fried the last dregs out of the end of the bag of frozen chips - you know the ones that are always left behind, little ends of potatoes, scrappy little bits of crunchy chips - and decided rather than opening another bag when there was no-one else to cook for he/she would share those meagre offerings out between us. Most times you go into a pub, your plate is overwhelmed by chips, they are after all probably the cheapest thing on the plate so make the plate look like its full, but this time the measly offerings wouldn't even fill the palm of your hand never mind command a presence on the plate. As I said in the title of this review, its the first time I have left after a pub meal feeling hungry most times I can't even finish my plate full. We probably will return at some time in the future as hopefully this was a one off and our bad luck that we came "at the end of the bag of chips" and next time will be better presumably. Sorry I failed to take a picture as we were so shocked at what we had we spent the meal talking about it and I forgot to take...
Read moreOn the way back from a shopping trip we decided to pop in for a quick meal. We didn't expect it to be amazing but thought it would at least be a quick and decent Saturday dinner. Unfortunately we were completely wrong.
I ordered a Mega Mixed Grill, my wife got Cauliflower Katsu curry and my daughter got a vegan cottage pie.
When our food arrived they forgot about my daughters side of curly fries so we had to wait until they came out. The tomato and large field mushroom which was supposed to be on my grill were also forgotten. After asking for them they brought me half a small tomato and 1 very small mushroom. My gammon was thin, absolutely cremated and very hard. My steak was stone cold, that's not an exaggeration either...flat cold. My wife's food was bland and not much of it at all. Half a plate of curry sauce, a small amount of rice and 4 tiny pieces of cauliflower. The menu said cauliflower and aubergine but there wasn't any at all. Surprisingly my daughter said she enjoyed hers so no complaints there.
Now to be fair to the staff they were very friendly, helpful and apologetic and reimbursed us the full amount of the meal without me asking so I must applaud them for trying to...
Read moreIve been going to the Morris Dancers for approx 45 years and can honestly say that the Tomahawk pork steak I had today was the best steak I've ever had there :) Compliments to the chef for having the skills to keep the moisture & flavour in the meat and making sure it was perfectly cooked - it must sure be a task to cook pork of that size, without it being dry or overcooked to compensate for flavour - hats off to you :). Wasn't too keen on the fries (but I'm not a 'chip' fan) however, there was a rice alternative. A sweet potato fries or wedgies option with a corn cob would swing the meal for me - a few more veggies wouldn't go amiss too ;) Now let's talk about Adam :) Love his 'grumpy' exterior - somewhere in between Basil Faulty, Manuel & Karl Pilkington - could even be the next Red Dwarf computer too lol but obviously has a heart of gold under that 'tough' shell. Anyway, a lovely afternoon/early evening - thanks to the staff for great food and a nice time, not forgetting that Adam doesn't like football - so C'mon The Lionesses'!!!! :) ps the price we put is including our drinks which were beers, spririts and a good few baby...
