We visited the pub on Sunday the 8th May for Sunday lunch.
NEVER AGAIN.
As it was a warm day the outside of the pub was full but the inside was completely empty. We were shown a table but could have picked ANY table. We ordered our starters and wanted to order the 3 meat roast main course BUT we were informed that the pub didn't have any of these. This didn't make any sense as we could have ordered each type of the meat contained in the 3 roast dinner as an individual roast dinner....
We waited for 30 minutes and I then spoke to a waitress and asked if we would be getting our starters soon bearing in mind that they were both prawn related so would take approximately 10 minutes maximum.
The very frazzled waitress came back and said that they would be with us soon but they were extremely busy. They were not at all busy they only had 5 covers! We know this to be a fact as they have a very helpful screen system so you can see where you are in the queue for food a bit like Argos! We had been at the front of the queue with our table number and in green for 25 minutes, no idea what that means BUT presumed it meant our food was ready...
We waited a further 10 minutes and decided to leave. We had been in the pub for an hour in total...
I went to the bar to tell them that we were leaving and would pay for our drinks only.
The front of house guy rushed to the kitchen to see what was happening, he came back and told me that they are now plating up the food. I said I wasn't interested and we were leaving.
He went to the till and then realised we hadn't even had our starters! I explained that was why we are leaving. He apologized and said he didn't know what was happening with the kitchen that day and again repeated that they were very busy to which i replied again, no you are not you only had 5 covers!
To add a table who had been served their food past us had complained about the quality of the meat that it was very dry, they did this right in front of us.
As I had booked online and had to pay £10 to book I want my...

First 2 choices on the menu weren’t available, so ordered the fish and chips, which promoted a bizarre laughter from the bartender. Still no idea what he found funny but it was very strange to say the least. Worst fish and chips I’ve ever had, more crispy batter than fish! Poorly presented as well. Not even Wetherspoons quality but double the price.
Ordered the sharing platter which was actually very good, but this was served at the same time as the mains. Server didn’t ask whether we wanted this served as a starter, which I perhaps wrongly assumed it would be.
Pasta dish prepared cold by the lazy chef who couldn’t even be bothered to check if it was hot. Very poor service considering we were the only ones in there at the time.
Atmosphere completely non existent and staff who really couldn’t care less, rather chat amongst themselves rather than taking a few seconds of their wasted time to ask if we enjoyed the meal.
After this meal I went to the Red Lion a few yards down the high street, which was a far better experience. A lot of the customers there saying similar things about how the Crown had gone downhill over the years. If you are ever in Egham I would definitely recommend this place...

I’ve been here for about a year and this place is one of the best pub I’ve been to. Great food and amazing selection of food choices.
Due to covid-19 the standard of procedure is slightly different, but the food remains delicious and fabulous just the way it used to be! Just remember you have the option to order it at the counter or just download the app to order and pay at your table!
I had the prawn and calamari duo for my starter; fantastic artistic presentation, fabulous crisp on both juicy prawn and calamari, complimented with a nicely done lemon mayonnaise sauce on the bottom - makes you crave for more food to come.
The beef pie is nothing that I’ve never seen before! A fluffy pie with layers of crispy batter to it, the taste is better than the texture of a croissant. The beef fillings - superb. One word to describe it all.
Crumble of the day, classic food to have here! Just the way I like it, not to sweet, and I love the sauce and texture to it. A lot better than what I usually have all the time!
Overall great food with excellent presentation, perfect with the atmosphere (sadly a bit less lively due to covid) and the...
