Caffe Gondola — Restaurant in Borough of Runnymede

It's great to have such a fantastic restaurant on our doorstep and we frequent it regularly, usually for breakfast on Saturday morning but we also go there for lunch and dinner. On Christmas Eve we went for breakfast which then turned into lunch and I had the Beef Carpaccio from their Specials starters which was truly amazing. It's always been very good but the last couple of times the Carpaccio has been outstanding, definitely the best I have ever eaten. So much so, I even took a picture which is not something I normally do. I told my Partner that I want to go there for New Years Eve for another 'extended' breakfast, some lunch and Prosecco. Beautiful food! Third visit here and thought I should write a review on the outstanding food, service and value. Lovely authentic Italian menu, recommend the cheesy garlic bread, lasagne is out of this world, fettuccine funghi, steak fillet, carbonara and the calzone...must try the pizza, looks amazing! Desserts are lovely too, recommend the lemon cheesecake and tiramisu! Service is very efficient, this visit, we were served by Gent, who went out of his way to make our visit memorable, though every visit the staff have been friendly, helpful and knowledgeable with the menu! Definitely recommend this restaurant for small groups and large groups, they will cater for all. I have always booked, but if only a small group, I think they would try to accommodate you! Food was ok and brought quickly. Unfortunately the positive evening ended here with rude staff and double charging for food and drink. Having paid £60 bill the staff complained that we had asked to have our bill produced separately. Afterwards cafe gondola took it upon themselves to add the food bill back onto the main bill and take the money for a second time from the group. Seems fraudulent to me. Moreover, the group were led to believe that we had left without paying and this was particularly awful as the bill had been paid. Personally I will never return to this cafe and be open to fraudulent behaviour. Stay away and use one of the much better places in Egham. Hopefully our friends will be reimbursed the £60 that was stolen from them...
