Think the chef has been replaced or he/she have lost his/her mind. AVOID the dinner This placed was once a great place This place is definitely not what is used to be One of the worst meals I've ever had in this area, The food on my plate was a disgrace and bar 163 I will not be coming back.
OWNER I will elaborate, you are using the same hot plate/Grill for the meat and fish. My beef burger tasted of fish so I opened it up to check if there was any fish in the beef burger, There wasn't but there was an oversized dead bluebottle inbetween the cheese and beef. So I asked the kind waitress to take It back. Chef said he would make me a new one. The new BEEF BURGER tasted of mackerel and beef wasn't cooked. Then the chef told the waitress that he took up all the normal procedures to make the beef burger and that he doesn't know why it tasted of fish. Both beef burgers smelt like a bowl of mussels. I ordered beef and it tasted of strong oily fish. the burger wasn't the only bit of food what wasn't up to standard but I'm only commenting on the burger as I wasn't eating the other meals that were ordered by the group I was with.
So the food was the problem nothing else. I've had better food at a Wetherspoons I could tell the chef had left by the standard of the food. This Is clearly not a "one off"...Your chef has left....And there is a 2 star review from 4 weeks ago. the food that one of your chefs made for me was embarrasing.
I dont know how a chef could make this mistake.
The fish somehow crossed over to the beef somehow, but that's what you will have to find out from your beloved chefs also in my opinion the strange taste of fish in the beef could of been, the meat being off...

From the beginning to the end of the organisation, Gilles the owner has been absolutely amazing . Always happy to help and met all my needs and requirements to the letter and even more . The team at BAR 163 is amazing , professional and friendly . The standards are outstanding and the customer service provided is above and beyond my expectations , flawless and highly recommended. The waitress in charge of the party , SORIA , was extremely helpful, dedicated and professional. LIZZY AND the rest of the Team , we’re also outstanding. I would like to express my deepest gratitude and appreciation for your amazing work and for making my birthday the best ever party of my life . This little gem in Egham is to be visited, not only for its quirky building, but the amazing food and products selections , from fresh home made bread to a cellar selection from Belgium beers to a variety of wines and spirits . The buffet catered for the event was outstanding and entirely bespoke , delicious and very very generous in portion . the canapes served for the welcome drinks were very pretty delicious and so impressive . The dessert was also very good . Honestly , well done to all , and huge thank you to Gilles . I cannot wait to return again and again and probably for a very long time. kindest Regards , julien...
Read moreWent for a birthday celebration last night and to say we left disappointed is an understatement.
The starters arrived promptly and were delicious, and we felt like we were in for a great evening. But then the wheels fell off. Our mains arrived an hour after we sat down, and, again were lovely but we then sat in front of our empty plates for over 50 minutes. (I took a photo of my meal when it arrived, which was time stamped) My partner ordered a drink when our mains were presented, which never arrived and had I not asked for the bill, I think we’d have sat there with our dirty plates much longer.
The three waitresses simply couldn’t keep up with the number of diners that had been seated. We didn’t complain to them because we know full well it wasn’t their fault. Having a son who has also worked in a grossly understaffed restaurant, it’s not fair on the servers who are doing their best on minimum wage to allow that many diners sit down.
We’d intended to have coffees, liqueurs and dessert but instead, over 2 hours and only 2 courses later, we went to The Crown and finished our evening there.
We’d chosen Bar163 on the basis of the chef, and whilst the food he’d produced was lovely, the service (or lack thereof) ruined our experience.
It’s such a shame as we won’t return to the restaurant and certainly won’t recommend...
