If i could give 0 stars I would. I went for lunch today and ordered a Caesar Salad. I was pleased when it arrived as the portion size looked very generous. I started eating and everything was fine, then unfortunately about half way through eating I noticed the raw and undercooked chicken. I took the dish to the bar and showed it to the person serving, although it was not their fault directly I was shocked when they laughed and said "Thank you for pointing that out I'll let the chef know" I said "why are you thanking me I could get food poisoning from this?" They awkwardly ignored me and continued serving customers at the bar, no apology and I ended up walking off. If I hadn't been with two work colleagues on our lunch break I would have taken this much further. I did not even check with the bill payer as to whether or not the meal was removed from the bill, although even if it had been it still would not have even been close to compensating, especially if I do end up with food poisoning. Let's hope I get off lucky in the next 48 hours. I would suggest being very vigilant if...

My husband and I new to the area stubbled across The Pelican, we came as strangers but left with new friends, from the moment we arrived we were met with the warmest of welcomes, We had the Sunday roast on that first visit and have been back every Sunday since, the food is absolutely delicious and the portion sizes are amazing, worth every penny, aside from the roasts the whole menu hits the spot and there is something for everyone, Entertainment is first class show casing some amazing singers and bands, definitely cater for all music tastes, especially love the rum & reggae day, spot on and recently the PeliFest was an absolute success, the bottomless brunches are a great laugh and if you have a special occasion to celebrate they will cater it perfectly, We can not recommend The Pelican and it’s amazing staff, from the kitchen, bar and servers...

New manager and a refurb going on. Will be interesting to see how it pans out.

Update ... The food and the cleanliness have improved really well. A lot of effort has put into the outside space. Having just returned from a Sunday lunchtime visit I want to give it more stars but I just can't. It kicked off in the beer garden and while the bar manager handled it really, it just all made us feel a bit uncomfortable. I really hope the positive changes make a difference that sticks.

New update....

Continues to improve and no better local place on a hot day.

Further update ... Returned for a Sunday lunch. Perfect end to a winter walk. Top notch service and three different roast dinners all cooked to perfection, with massive portions. We'll done to the Pelican Team. Very nice friendly local atmosphere. Glad to be able to up my...

Came here as we were in the area and wanted a pub style late lunch. This place did not disappoint! Although there was a large party which made it quite busy at the bar and with the food the staff were friendly and professional. We did have an issue regarding cocktails however this was sorted by one of the ladies behind the bar as soon as and when our food came out we were very impressed. Portion sizes were big and prices were reasonable. My sister had the lamb shank where the meat just slid off the bone and the pie of the day was beautifully cooked with plenty of gravy. Would definitely recommend anyone to come here, a beautiful place even in the winter. It's right next to the canal so I can imagine the beer garden in the summer being a lovely setting. Thank you for a lovely atmosphere and brilliant afternoon. :)

My new local! We only moved here a few months ago and everyone at the pub has made us feel most welcome. Great beers, amazing food and good people make this a quality spot, unfortunately work being the curse of the drinking classes has meant I haven't been down for a few weeks but I'm working on working less so that we can. Whether you want to sit in the lovely garden by the canal, watch the football or just chill out with some great food and company then this should be on your list of top pubs.

A fantastic traditional pub with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The Sunday Roast is absolutely delicious—perfectly cooked meat, crispy roast potatoes, and rich gravy. The conservatory area is a lovely touch, especially on a sunny day, letting in plenty of natural light while you enjoy your meal.
