Went to the restaurant last evening 25th/9/20, as we were early it wasn’t too busy then I felt as the evening progressed there were too many customers and the tables were the same distance apart like before COVID. My husband and I were very disappointed with the food, his chicken bland and tasteless, my lamb chops were so thin and lacked any meat basically a disaster, they had over booked trying to get in as many people as possible before 10o/c,the waiters were pleasant but didn’t come back to ask if the food was okay as they were so busy . On leaving we had to get through the customer’s queuing for their take away, no organisation or social distancing. I was so amazed by the decor and the ambience of this place. Sitting near the river thames. An establishment that has been here since 1965. The Owner and his chef have created food that will get you thinking why did I not come here before. Unbelievable food and good service. I was served a medly of starters. One of the combinations really blew my mind when I was told the crunchy delicious salsa style dish 'The Magic' was not what I thought it was. I couldn't workout what it was. The owner asked me 'have a guess? I failed each time and when he told what it was I was flabbergasted. The dish is called 'The Magic' it truly is that. Table for 3 booked for 8pm, sat down ordered 3 shandy,s and 6 poppadom, this took about 25 minutes, one starter ordered which seemed to take forever, 1hr 15mins we got our main meal which I did enjoy. A table of 5 came in after us and were eating before us and a couple came in about 9:20 and were fed and watered as soon as they came in, obviously regulars, and then to top it all the bill was placed on the table without being asked for. Not a particularly cheap restaurant which didn't bother me to much because of the food, but none of us appreciated seeing other diner's being served quicker.
