The Billet — Restaurant in Borough of Swale

We visited The Billet for the first time in many years just before Xmas.

It was quite busy and there was a good atmosphere. We managed to get a table despite it being pretty busy and them having a lot of table reservations.

After looking at the large menu, we opted for the two meals for £11.49 deal. Hunters Chicken with chips and salad and a Chicken strips in Katsu sauce with rice and chips. The food did take a while to arrive, but like I said, it was busy, so it was understandable. The food was much better than I expected (considering the price), there was plenty there and it was cooked perfectly.

There was a pool table around one side of the bar and a few TVs showing different sporting events. The pub was clean with the tables being cleaned regularly while we were there.

The Billet also has a large beer garden to the rear of the building, which would be perfect for the summer. There were also a few benches at the front of the pub, but they are quite close to the main road, so not as inviting.

I'm glad we visited The Billet as it beat my expectations and we will definitely be coming...

I ordered a vegan Quorn chicken burger (two vegan choices on the menu) picked my three toppings, vegan cheese, onions and pickles. Burgers come with lettuce, Mayo and bun. Served with chips. Chips were raw - I was told (message from chef) it’s because we have to oven cook them to stop cross contamination. (Fair enough, I’ll not eat my raw chips then!) I then, seeing the Mayo on my burger, asked if I could have some vegan Mayo for my chips. “We don’t have vegan Mayo, I’m afraid” I questioned why there was Mayo on my vegan burger. The chefs explains “ it says it come with Mayo!” … My husband had the other vegan option, vegan fish and chips, the staff didn’t know if the tartare sauce was vegan friendly, we guessed not… anyway, I’m sure you get the idea. If you have no allergies, a load of spare time, and truly don’t care what food you eat. This will be fine. My friend pre-booked a table for 4 . The lady on the phone was polite, helpful and it was easy to book. We had Sunday roast . When the young waiter brought the food over we was very pleasantly surprised at the size of our meal. The food tasted amazing. I had turkey which came with all the trimmings including pigs in blankets. I cleared my plate. How could I leave such tasty food? Ha ha ha. We then had desert which was also very nice indeed. I would definitely visit the Billet again. Staff professional, helpful, knowledgeable about menu and made us welcome. Food amazing and definitely cooked fresh. Very good value for money.
