We visited The Stag and Breckland Lodge after the reopening after COVID-19. We hadn’t booked but we welcomed at the car park entrance with a very warm welcome. Our details were taken of last name and contact number on entering the car park at a safe distance (track and tracing system) and directed to a car parking space.
We arrived at reception with a state of the art temperature monitoring system which had face recognition and temperature taking with a no contact thermometer to our wrists (our 7 year old felt like an agent from Fortnite having this done). The system was very accurate and thankfully we were all below temperature.
The friendly receptionist asked us were we wanted to sit, as it was early lunch and a nice day we chose outside.
After arriving outside we were greeted with information on our table on how to order our food and drinks, a simple scan of the QR code from our camera app led us straight to the web browser menu on our phones. I ordered a Steak Hogie for us, two coffees and George had a child’s hot dog and apple juice. The ordering was simple and straight forward and payment taken directly after scanning my debit card details.
Almost minutes after ordering, George’s apple juice arrive by the waiter who had a face visor on so we felt very safe. He’d double checked whether there was anything else we’d ordered. After replying that we had coffees and food he assured us this would arrive shortly as the coffee’s didn’t come from the bar, and that they would arrive separately from the coffee lounge. Within 5 minutes a separate waitress had arrived with our coffees.
Just as we were enjoying our coffee and no more than 15 minutes later our food had arrived. The Hogie was perfect, it was accompanied with a side salad and perfectly hot chips. And George’s hot dog was a perfect butchers sausage which he ate every last bit.
It was so nice to be in a pub again, and the service was outstanding! Would I visit again? Did I feel safe?

Read moreHave been to the Stag on numerous occasions. But booked a table last night for a special meal with my husband and another couple. Three of us had the carvery and one had a burger. He said he would mark it 5 out of 10. Not impressed. But the carvery was even more disappointing. It was not very hot, the roast potatoes were like leather. We ate at 18.00 and were the first table served. So the food should have been hot and the potatoes crisp. I realize in these times it is not possible to choose from the hot dishes and we have to remain seated but the food was just haphazardly piled on the plates my friend and myself would not have chosen such large amounts of vegetables. My husband also had extra protein on his plate in the shape of a fly! All in all not the dining experience we had been looking forward to. But I must add that the young man who waited on our table was very pleasant, and helpful. He was able to get us a slightly reduced bill, but I would have preferred a delicious meal which we have had at the Stag in the past. Yours...
Read moreSadly for the second time in 5 weeks I'm very disappointed. 5 weeks ago after ordering carvery we were told there was a problem and advised to order something else, but today the 4 of us visited again and the 3 others ordered from the menu but due to health restrictions I have to order carvery which I did today. There seemed to be a lengthy wait for food(35 minutes) and I was then approached to inform me the carvery meat except gammon had now all gone. Sadly I can only eat chicken or turkey. I was offered a free plate of vegetables if I wanted which I declined. This being the second time I've been denied lunch here we decided that we will no longer visit for lunch and travel elsewhere as we drive a fair distance to visit. Between ordering the carvery and being told the meat had run out 3 tables consisting of 12 people all arrived and were allowed their carvery meals around us but because of the wait for the rest of our parties food I was denied this pleasure. It's a shame but we will now have to find a new carvery...
