Sadly disappointing after so much anticipation. We didn’t book as it was mid week but we’re made to stand whilst she checked the availability, only 1 other table occupied and we were seated almost next to them. Pleasant young waitress who’s phrase was ‘no worries’ but overall the service was very slow considering how quiet the restaurant was. Good selection on the menu so I chose the Game Pie which was very authentic with a shotgun pellet in it but the pastry was hard, the gravy was awful with separated lumps of bistro/ thickener in it and the lumpy carrot and swede mash was served with carrots and swede, talk about root vegetable overload. I then ordered the Passionfruit Crème Brûlée which once I cracked through the sugar was totally split and full of clear liquid. I quietly returned it and it was replaced with Lemon Posset, which tasted pleasant but once again was not set and had the consistency of double cream. During the time we were waiting for our food we observed 2 other couples, seated right next to us, look at the menu/ prices, get up and leave with no explanation. Such a shame all round, I had high hopes we would finally have a decent restaurant in the area but the place had no atmosphere, service was slow and whist the range of food was very good the execution of it was poor,...
Read moreThe White Lodge is a pub and restaurant on the old Norwich to London Road which now runs parallel here to the A11. It has been refurbished recently and has a large, barn like, restaurant space, which was full apart from the table booked for us, when we arrived.
The menu is eclectic but included lots of things we like. There were four of us here for dinner and we all enjoyed it.
One of the party began with Whitebait while I had Chicken Wings in Smoky Hickory BBQ Sauce which were sticky and lovely.
Our friends shared a delightful Baked Camembert plate together.
For mains one of us had a venison burger which came served with lettuce, tomato and pickle and a red cabbage and apple coleslaw and chunky chips. Another the spiced halloumi burger which was served with similar trimmings.
I had a Warm Goat’s Cheese Salad with two generous pieces of goat’s cheese and a lovely fresh salad drizzled with a sticky balsamic vinegar, wonderful.
And our final guest opted for the Salmon with roasted potatoes and vegetables and a rocket salad which was a real treat.
Each of us were very happy with our respective meals.
Only two of us had desserts one which was a huge Wild Berry Eton Mess and another had Caramel Crunch cheesecake with Popcorn, both went down well.
Overall, lovely food in an open and...
Read moreStay well clear of this place. Popped in for lunch today and OMG. The toilets were filthy The food was awful and the head waitress/manager had a terrible attitude. The ‘fresh’ focaccia was stale and very dense The turkey lunch was terrible. The meat was cheap and tasteless The potatoes dry The gravy had a very strange taste Some sprouts were hard and others were soggy. The meal was microwaved for sure. Nothing fresh. Nothing proper. Our table and 2 other tables beside us were very unhappy with their meals also. We raised concerns about the meal and the manager said she would get us a fresh meal…. Surely every meal should have been freshly cooked ?? We tried to give some feedback to the female manager when we went to pay at the bar but she refused to admit there was anything wrong with the food. We were happy to pay for our drinks but the not inedible food. She then tore up the bill and told us to leave ! I went back to update the other tables about my awful experience at the bar and, I was told to leave the premises immediately. There was nothing good to say about this place. Terrible attitude, awful food and dirty toilets. Must be embarrassing for the owners to read this but honest feedback is important if you care about your business and...
