Barwaaqo Restaurant is a Somali spot that is fully halal and honestly one of the warmest places I have eaten at. The staff and owners are really welcoming, proper good people who make you feel like family from the moment you walk in. The kind of people who actually want you to feel comfortable, not just customers passing through.
When we ordered, the food was going to take about half an hour to be ready, and instead of just letting us wait, the owner came over with free tea. That gesture alone says a lot. Somali hospitality is on another level, and you feel it here straight away. The tea was rich, spiced just right, and it set the tone for what was to come.
The chicken soup was absolutely beautiful. It had layers of flavour, not just salty water with a bit of chicken thrown in like you get in some places. You could taste the freshness of the ingredients, the herbs and spices coming together to make something warming and full of depth. Every spoonful made you want another.
For mains, I went for rice, chicken, and steak. The rice was cooked perfectly, fluffy and full of flavour on its own, not bland like some places serve. The chicken though, easily some of the best I have ever tasted. It was juicy, tender, and seasoned so well that every bite felt like it had been prepared with care. You could tell it had been marinated properly and not rushed. The steak was also spot on, full of flavour with that nice balance of being soft but still having a proper bite to it. Altogether, it was a meal that made you slow down and enjoy every part of it.
What really stood out though, beyond the food, was the Somali hospitality. It is genuinely the best hospitality I have ever come across. Everyone treats each other like brothers, with respect and kindness that feels so natural. You could sit down with any Somali person, even a complete stranger, and within minutes you are deep in conversation about football, family, work, or just life in general. It is a beautiful culture, and Barwaaqo Restaurant reflects that perfectly.
I walked out not just full but actually happy, which is what good food and good people...
