Laila Café-Bar-Restaurant — Restaurant in Bristol

I took visiting family out for breakfast here last weekend and we loved it. The owners were really friendly and create a great atmosphere. The food was unpretentious, tasty food, really nicely cooked, and the portions were enormous. The coffee was fantastic - hands down the best coffee I've had in Bristol. And the prices were so reasonable, I had to check they hadn't made a mistake and undercharged us.

In an area where a lot of the restaurants and bars fall into the two extremes of either rough dives or peak hipster, this place is just pleasingly in the middle - really nice, but not overpriced or poseurishly chefy, and it's a place where I think pretty much anyone would feel comfortable and at home. Usual cafe food done really well, plus some Turkish dishes, all amazingly cheap. The place was busy and most of the customers looked like regulars, right at home, which was a good sign. We ordered fish and chips, chicken burger, omelet and BLT, which came very quickly and were really good. On the menu there were also four Sunday roast options, lasagna, shepherds pie, chicken or chickpea curry, salads, some Turkish dishes and some other things I don't remember. The staff were cheerful, friendly and efficient and there was a well-stocked changing table in the toilet. The prices were so good I wondered how they could make a living, but I suppose it must be because they're never short...

Awful first experiance. Went in for a breakfast to take away. The lady behind the counter was nice enough but the chef behind (who is maybe also the owner or an employee?) looked blankly at me as i said hello then looked away. Once the food was done he brought the food to the counter and just put it down looked at me and walked away. When i went home i saw he hadnt even added my eggs (to a breakfast!) so im sat here with a mediocre plate of food of which some is missing. Wont...
