Apparently haunted, the Wackum Inn Whitehall, Bristol, was originally called the Beafort Arms. It picked up the sobriquet 'Beatem and Wackem' when on paydays miners wives would come to the pub to forcibly evict their husbands, stopping them from spending all their wages and to come home. The 'Beatem' was dropped over the years. This reviewer has noticed that peoples and place names, and even some words, are shortened in the Bristol area. Back to the pub. Very popular and well patronised by the local community with many large TV screens raised high for capacity viewing. On game days, this place is standing room only. But more importantly to your narrator, it is one of the many Greene King pubs on the Cask Marque Ale Trail - and the purpose of my visit. Although the front-of-house knew little of it (the CMAT), explanation attracted interest and the Certificate scanned without problem. The Timothy Taylors 4.1°abv sampled on the day was in noble condition and well deserving the Accreditation awarded.

My first visit, with my friend and his dog.On entering the pub you immediately notice the decor, obviously needs an refurbishment or some money spent, especially on the carpets, taking this aside we were met by very friendly bar staff who accommodated us having the dog. After being seated we were served by Michelle who couldn't be more accommodating even bringing the dog a bowl of water and a bowl of scraps. The meal a Sunday Roast of beef was superb, followed by a delicious desert, the price of the roast was £9,incredible,I know everyone has standards but for the price I got over the decor, which was superseded by the quality of the food and the top class service from Michelle, she is a star and deserves a top class wage to keep her services,I hope the landlord passes on my views to management,so in all recommended if you want a good reasonable Sunday Roast. Just a quick update for the staff, nearly 400 views on my review in 3 days,it's going to be popular ,better get some more Michells quick, good luck

Myself & our family have enjoyed a lovely Christmas meal @ The Wackum 🎄 All the staff are so lovely and always make us feel so welcome - especially with the children! Today Justin & Finn was on the Bar and went above and beyond to make our afternoon special. The food was excellent from the chef Damion! We will definitely be back & thank you again ❤️ - Ellie, Ruby & Maria
