A Disappointing Dining Experience at "The Acle Steak"

I had the unfortunate pleasure of dining at "The Acle Steak" recently, and I must say it was an experience I would rather forget. The establishment prides itself on offering premium steaks, but my visit left me thoroughly unimpressed.

Let's start with the main event – the Ribeye. For a £30 steak, one would expect a culinary masterpiece, but what I received was far from it. The Ribeye was overcooked to the point of being virtually inedible, and the quality was abysmal. The meat was tough and chewy, leaving me questioning the steep price tag attached to this lacklustre dish.

The French onion soup, while having a nice flavour profile, was marred by a significant oversight. Imagine my surprise when I discovered a chunk of soggy bread floating in the soup. This not only disrupted the texture but also raised concerns about the kitchen's attention to detail.

To add insult to injury, the Sirloin suffered the same fate as the Ribeye – overcooked and lacking proper resting. It seemed as though the chef had a consistent theme of neglecting the basics of cooking. A well-cooked steak should be a given in a restaurant that prides itself on its meat offerings.

The service was equally disappointing. Plates were snatched away prematurely, with my companion still having chips in her hand. It's basic etiquette to wait until all diners have finished their meals before clearing the table, something that seemed to elude the staff at "The Acle Steak." Additionally, finding someone to request the bill felt like an unnecessary chore, highlighting the lackadaisical approach to customer service.

As if that wasn't enough, the barman was caught up in his own world, too busy sipping on his pint to attend to the needs of the patrons. This lack of professionalism further tarnished the overall dining experience.

In conclusion, "The Acle Steak" failed to live up to its promises of delivering a premium dining experience. From the subpar steaks to the lackadaisical service, it's safe to say that this establishment fell far short of expectations. Save your money and opt for a dining venue that takes both its cuisine and customer service...

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!! Wow! What a shame…A new business with such potential to do well ruined by shoddy management. Myself, my husband and my daughter were planning on coming next week for my birthday meal. I can certainly say we won’t be now, knowing what sort of business we’d be supporting…I was walking by when I saw a young girl crying in the car park and a man (around mid to late 40s, not sure of his name) talking to her very aggressively. I was able to hear that she was an employee and he was her boss. I spoke with her afterwards and she told me it was her second shift and she hadn’t had any training yet. And when she was interviewed she made sure everyone knew she had ADHD and that it would take her a little while to pick things up. Her boss told her “I know people with ADHD. It doesn’t mean you can’t focus. It’s not the reason you’re making mistakes and it’s no excuse.” Incompetence! ADHD or not, it was this girls second shift with no training. The reason for all of this anger? She mixed up the table numbers. A lady joined our conversation and explained she too had overheard the encounter, and would be making sure to take her business elsewhere and spread the word, as she agreed that his behaviour was unacceptable. And if this wasn’t enough to make you run for the hills, a group walked out and I overheard them saying how they wouldn’t return if you offered them money to! Sorry excuse for a pub! A pub with no respect for their staff, or their customers. And based on talk of the village and the unhappy customers I cant say in surprised by some of these reviews! My advice?...

We went as a family group of 8 for an 18th birthday dinner. Some of us got some food some didn't some had a main brought but no starter. The drinks order got muddled so some had no drinks. The waitress. Who was very nice walked out leaving a poor kid trying to cope. The manageress didn't know whether it was Christmas or rice pudding. And senior chap behind the bar told me staff don't turn up etc. The table behind us got the wrong meal and in the end we had to leave. So birthday cake picked up we left. To be fair they addressed the problem headvon and didn't charge us. But a new place with the opportunity to build such good local PR. Disaster. Saw two sets of friends in there who independently said they are not going back. I felt sorry for them but more so fir my poor granddaughter who waited an hour for her first legal drink and then they gave hers to grandad. Who was driving and grandads to her. My advice. Let them iron out the ruffles before having more than a sandwich and a...

This is an edit of my first review (which was 5 star). You'll see from the pictures attached, they did do some incredible food here a year or so ago. There is an issue here though, only in terms of food (I have rated rooms and service a 5 to be fair because the staff are all lovely and I haven't slept in the rooms but hear they are nice). The issue with the food here is consistency, there has clearly been a lot of churn in staff and I think this/regular menu changes has compromised quality. On one visit the food will be outstanding, on the other you're getting frozen chips and peas with your fish. The menu has recently changed, again, and appears to be even more inaccessible than before, it has steak tar tar and removed some common staples of the establishment (I miss the wellington). I think this place would do a lot better if they focussed on the consistency of their dishes and making quality/classic pub grub at a reasonable price and stopped aiming to be a fine dining establishment.

The restaurant was lovely. The waitress was good & helpful. We had the Roast Beef. The standard of the meal was mixed. The beef was tender but over cooked. We arrived at the beginning of service so it should have been cooked better. Give customers a steak knife with roast beef, lamb etc. The roast potatoes were hardly roasted. Why restaurants don’t do what I do & plunge them into a deep fat fryer just prior to serving I don’t know. So easy. The parsnips were just okay, not great. The rest of the items were good. I liked the crispness of the cauliflower which was accompanied with lots of tasty cheese sauce. My main gripe would be, the food was luke warm when it arrived. No excuse. Only one other table had eating guests. The creamy, crunchy dessert which was served in a long glass was delicious as was the Lemon Posset.

I was extremely surprised at the quality of the room. It was clean cosy and comfy. The bath was massive and showed powerful (although the I couldn’t get the “rain fall” attachment to work). The bed was a Queen size or a speaking size and very comfortable. The gratis room refreshments were to standard and very vice. The staff were friendly, especially Sammy who took our booking over the phone. I wasn’t lucky enough to to eat a steak there as I went downstairs too late (8:45pm) and they stop serving food at 8:30, my mistake. Breakfast was a bit delayed due to staffing problems (Natalia handled this well) but the full English breakfast was very well cooked and tasted lovely thanks to the guy that arrived on a Sunday morning at short notice and it wasn’t his shift.
