Sunday night visit with my boyfriend. We eat here atleast a couple of times a week, so decided to go for dinner around 9pm on Sunday.
We sat in the booth next to the high tables, table was messy, uncleaned, not cleared nor wiped over, and there was a dirty dish cloth left on top of the booth seat, with a btl of sanitizer on the shelf next to it - presumably someone couldn't really be bothered to do their job.
I had the 'gourmet' steak which was okay, minus the onion rings and mushrooms that it was supposed to come with. My boyfriend ordered the bbq chicken melt.
His chicken was evidently tough, rubbery and overall a disgrace. The bbq sauce was so over microwaved on top of the bacon wrapped chicken that it was more like a plaster than a sauce. We cut off a piece of the chicken and tried a bit each and quickly called the server on duty over - brown haired female with a bit of an attitude. We told her that the chicken was not upto scratch and she stood there somewhat confused and told us she would take it back to the kitchen which she did. Shortly later she returned with the same plate of rubbery chicken and told us that the 'chef' had told her that due to some if the chicken having already been consumed that they would not change nor refund the dish. She quickly put the plate back and the table and muttered that it was nothing to do with her and that kitchen over ruled her, and quickly walked away. Considering the pub was relatively dead being Sunday evening, I would have liked some kind of proper customer service instead of attitude and service of an imbasil whom showed no regard for her customers. A terrible experience, disgusting attitude and really shoddy service of which we won't be...
Read moreDisappointing Experience at The Star - JD Wetherspoon: I’ve been to The Star in Hoddesdon multiple times and always enjoyed it, but my recent visit on 01/09/24 was truly disappointing. We ordered food and drinks totalling £90, only to be informed by a staff member after placing the order that due to a staff shortage and being busy all day, they had run out of pizza and there would be a 40-minute wait for food. Despite the delay, we decided to stick with our order.
Unfortunately, the food finally arrived at 8:20 pm, and to our disappointment, everything was lukewarm and didn’t seem fresh at all. To make matters worse, one of our dishes was missing. I had to go all the way to the kitchen to ask about it, and the staff’s response was far from pleasant.
What’s most frustrating is that no compensation or apology was offered for the delay or the quality of the food. It felt as though the staff wanted us to cancel our order, and when we didn’t, they were clearly irritated. This experience has really put me off from returning.
I’ve never had issues here before, but after this experience, I’m not sure I’ll be back anytime soon. The Star needs to seriously work on its service and...
Read moreManager is so rude and unprofessional didn’t feel welcome at all , waiting time is so long for food and pub was empty . Manager needs customer training. For starters we couldn’t have the carling beer as it was blown (there wan no apology). Our food was ready for nearly 10 mins on the hot plate before it was served to us. With our food we had plate of chips served that wasn’t ours and the staff member Table 29 8.30pm took it back to the hot plate and then looked around and served it to the table that had initially ordered it (bear in mind we’re in COVID times) and 2 members of our party didn’t have a mask on them and was absolutely scrutinised about it we offered to pay for the masks as we had left our car at the hotel and was willing to sit at the table 1 meter from the door but they wouldn’t have none of it. Was told to go and buy one elsewhere. Goo job we were only visiting as we certainly wouldn’t come here again. Cutlery was...
