I’ve dined here a few times before, and it’s always been a somewhat pleasant experience. However, today, I was extremely disappointed by the service, which was semi-handled by who I believe to be either the owner or higher member of staff. My waitress initially brought me the wrong order, she had mistakenly served me a “Light Breakfast” instead of the “Vegetarian Breakfast” that I had requested. She was very apologetic and immediately began working to resolve the issue.
However, when the lady in charge came over, she insisted that I had ordered the Light Breakfast and that’s what I had received. I politely assured her that I hadn’t. To avoid further hassle and because I was already hungry, I decided to accept the meal I had been given, but asked if I could have hash browns, which was supposed to come with the original breakfast. I had already swapped the egg for avocado as I’m vegan, and since they don’t offer a dedicated vegan breakfast, I had made do.
Instead of addressing my request properly, the lady rudely placed a single hash brown on my plate, despite the fact that my original order included two hash browns, a veggie sausage, and beans—none of which were included. To make matters worse, I was the. charged for the additional hash brown and for the avocado swap, adding a subsequent amount to an already overpriced the bill.
I didn’t receive what I ordered, yet was expected to pay extra. When I sent the bill back to have the extra charges removed, they took off the extra but then disgustingly added a separate charge for beans, which my friend had requested due to her dry jacket potato.
I’ve never been so appalled by the service and the attitude of the main staff member. She not only treated me poorly but also put the waitress in an uncomfortable position multiple times. Overall, my experience today was far from acceptable, and I won’t...
Read moreThis place really has gone from strength to strength over the years. I simply can't recommend Deer Cafe enough. The food is always exceptional, the menu choice is perfect and the staff are super friendly and efficient. If it's a cafe you're looking for then this is the place with all the expected breakfast/lunch options but if its Turkish lunch or dinner they have you covered too and the quality is as good, if not better than the other local Turkish restaurants. I've actually walked out of Wetherspoons across the road before as I realised I could get better quality food and at competitive prices at Deer Cafe. A special shout out also to the owner Ozay Tabak, who personally cooked my Sarma Lamb Beyti on my most recent visit and also to their amazing waitress Emma Sammarco, who could break a world record for the amount she can remember without writing anything down and couldn't be more attentive. Over the years, my whole family has become quite attached to this place, so long may it survive to continue brightening up Hoddesdon's dining experience. I should also point out that their chicken and bacon jacket potato is probably the best...
Read moreOh Dear! This was the Cafe’s first day having opened at 8am. We are keen to support local business so made a point of being in town this morning and went in, on arrival we were the only customers.
We ordered an orange juice (freshly squeezed and tasty) and a latte as well as a BLT and poached eggs on toast. The drinks arrived fairly quickly, not so the food. My BLT arrived, no sign of the eggs. The sandwich was modest and luke warm but acceptable. Then the eggs arrived, but were quickly returned as they were not cooked!
The speed of service is slow and some of the staff have issues in understanding customers, both when ordering and other things. Whilst we were there a customer ordered a milk shake and Caesar’s Salad the drink arrived but after 20 minutes not the salad, so she wanted to leave - the waitress did not understand what she was saying, in the end she paid for the drink and...
