Very, very disappointed at the service received at the Crown Inn this evening.
In the interest of supporting local businesses post-lockdown, I have regularly frequented the Crown on a number of occasions and have never had an experience like today. I have always found the service / staff beyond accommodating e.g. Providing us with umbrellas when it was raining.
Firstly, we arrived at the pub (which was rather quiet) requesting a table of 7 and rightly so - was informed that in line with government regulations that we would require two outdoor tables. This wasn't a problem and this was made clear to whom I believe, was the manager.
We ended up being a group of 6, which we then decided to move two separate spare chairs from another table to our small bench which sat 4 people socially distanced. We were promptly told by one of the staff members that this wasn't allowed and that he "didn't make the rules". This was slightly puzzling given we were now a table of 6 and this has always been permitted under the governmdnt regulatioms. We then decided to sit across three tables to ensure social distancing.
One of my friends' drinks then unfortunately fell over when resting on an "arguably" slanted table. When a staff member came over to clean the spillage, my friend profusely apologised and thanked her for coming over and mentioned that it was a shame that we were unable to sit, distanced as originally attempted. This was where we were then met by completely rude and aggressive behaviour from another one of the staff members, saying that she didn't get "paid minimum wage to enforce the riles [or] get spoken to like this".
Now we can totally appreciate that COVID-19 has created some incredibly challenging circumstances for the hospitality industry, but this does neither excuse nor justify a complete lack of customer service. Furthermore, some of the staff at the pub itself are clearly disgruntled enough about the pay that they receive to behave in a way which is wholly unacceptable.
We were then attended to by the manager, whom my friend provided feedback on the aforementioned service. She explained the pubs policy on moving of chairs and received our thanks.
My reason for such a low rating was that following our interaction with one of the staff members', my friends and I were left feeling incredibly uncomfortable when we tried to remain at the pub with inappropriate gestures being made by the staff member in question across the courtyard.
The Crown will no longer be our first choice when visiting a pub in Beeston. A...
Read moreOn reflection my original one star rating was too harsh, but I am frustrated with The Crown and all pubs with regard to face mask policy, as laid out by the government. I have allergies which means a mask over the nose can make me sneeze, which would not go down well near people drinking, so as I signed in, I only had it over my mouth, but a surly female member of staff decided to play Covid God with me and question weather id be a threat to everyone if I didn't cover my snozz as I filled in their paperwork...let me point out the craziness of the mask policy...pubs insist that you wear a mask as you enter, in The Crowns case however, it's in their car park where you wait like little sheep in a pen before a member of staff shows you a slip of paper you need to fill in, still in the open air of a car park..you are then sent to a table, still in the open air in the converted car park, when you can then remove your mask and order drinks from the staff...what a pointless excercise....the virus, should anyone, have it, would not simply vanish the moment you are seated .. sorry The Crown but viruses do not work like that, so what is the point of asking patrons to wear a mask, outside for few seconds to fill in a form when all around them are drinkers without one? And few seconds and feet later at your table you are not wearing one...., after all the nature of the business means customers will not be wearing a mask whilst consuming drinks...I explained this, along with my allergies, to the surly staff member but she still gave me the third degree about safety to staff before walking off to a table to take the order of four unmasked blokes who were within a few feet of her....the lunacy of these rules is...
Read moreThis pub has been a regular of mine since sitting in the beer garden 40 years ago as a kid with my family... Today however, the customer service is somewhat lacking and by lacking, I mean nonexistent... Today I approached the bar with the peculiar tasting Titanic to order a new round but mentioned the Titanic tasted funny and actually returned the half full glass to the bar to leave it there, the "manager" and bar staff immediately assumed I was trying to score a free drink whereas I was pro actively trying to help them check if there was a problem as we've been drinking Titanic for years. I had zero intention of asking for any form of compensation whatsoever but was sneered at by one barman who was simply passing by as the glass was now only half full before even being allowed to finish speaking but hadn't even heard my original comments... I felt attacked by three members of staff including the manager and have never in 30 years been made to feel this way in this pub... I was told to chill almost immediately when I simply asked nicely not to be laughed at, I was told that I was aggressive and at the same time, defensive, and then the manager admitted he never drinks Titanic but then when he finally agreed to try it, immediately said it tastes absolutely fine... This was a customer service disaster of Titanic...
