I was looking forward to my visit to this restaurant as I had heard such good reports about it. On entering it looked fabulous and we were privileged to be seated at the window. We ordered drinks, pint of lager for my husband and a bottle of Australian Chardonnay for myself. What arrived was an unrecognisable Spanish wine which I pointed out to them. They quickly apologised and returned with a bottle of Chardonnay, Spanish!! Think they must have a glut of it that they need to dispose of. After the 3rd attempt I finally received the correct Australian wine I had ordered, not a good start. The starters we ordered were the prawns and garlic mushrooms, these were very good. The main course was Sea Bass for my husband and the Sumac and Thyme Roast Chicken, my husband stated that the Sea Bass was nice but sorry to say I was not impressed with the chicken, which was just chicken. We asked for the bill and was charged £8.95 for a Bertram's Fizz (which was £6.50 on the menu) and to be honest it was a small glass of fizzy orange with a piece of orange stuck in the top. I did expect more for a cocktail at that price. They also did not offer for us to look at the specials menu (there were none on the table and no one mentioned them to us before we ordered) that we only discovered at the till on paying the bill, so all in all I was not too impressed and am afraid will probably not be returning. I wasn't really impressed with the throng of people that turned up at the bar half way through that I presume was for a party upstairs, they were quite noisy, maybe I am being picky to expect a bit of...
Read moreWas staying locally and wanted to finish our holiday with a treat, a nice meal on our final night. We booked a table for 8pm and were actually running late and arrived at 8.06 when we arrived the table wasn't ready. After a short wait in the bar area, we saw the waitress laying our table but in between was tending to other tables. Not sure if this follows covid guidelines as she was touching other tables whilst laying out cutlery.
The tables were back to back but were close together. I'm not sure if the layout is new due to Covid but our table faced a glass wall which on the otherside you could see people using the spa facilities which lead to a weird dining experience.
Service wasn't brilliant all throughout the meal. We didn't have a dedicated waitress and that meant we had just sat down and were given the menus then a minute later another waitress asked for our food order - we politely asked for more time and see returned later. When the mains arrived, a pea sauce was forgotten and then arrived 5mins into the meal and was awkwardly poured onto a half eaten dish. All staff were friendly but it didn't seem seamless.
Onto the food, it was all good quality and well cooked but for the elevated prices the restaurant is trying to achieve, I don't think it met the standards required to warrant the higher prices.
Overall an OK restaurant but its genuinely confused. The pricing, menu and services doesn't align well to the image its wanting to portray, it needs to define if its fine or casual dining...
