Very disappointed with the ambiance and renovation of J.S. Very unremarkable. I had the children soup starter with kneidlach and was unimpressed; soup quite salty but matzo balls not much taste. I have to say I am hard to please as my cooking is very good; I usually put ground walnuts or even ground almonds in my kneidles which makes them tasty. I always have bits of chicken in my homemade chicken soup. This could have been from a tub of chicken soup powder. I went with 2 female friends for the early bird menu which we had booked for 6pm. I arrived first early and when I had been sat there for 10 minutes the waitress came up to me and said that they would be needing out table for other diners by 7.20p.m. Hardly leisurely dining. Fortunately, only one of my party thought it necessary to have a dessert ( which was very over priced). My friends had chicken schnitzels in one form or another which actually looked quite nice ( full of chicken). Unfortunately, I chose the cottage pie in a dish with mash on top and about 6 green beans ( just about cooked). It tasted very peppery. I don't think that I would be going back to this place unless someone else was paying for me and I could order from the more extensive main menu. By the way, the toilet seat in the ladies was a moving experience! I told one of the waitresses when I came out and they already knew about it; which begs the question why they had not put a sign up...
Read moreRecently took family for a "quick bite" in the newly refurbished take-away section that you can actually sit in ! It was a very pleasant experience from start to finish. ... The food is very reasonably priced especially for kosher food in large value for money portions. Everything is cooked to order but waiting time never seems too long. We ordered 2 adult burgers topped with strips of steak then loaded with fried and crispy onions, a salad garnish with a choice of extra pickles and salads on the side plus chips and a choice of every dressing you can think of, a kids burger who's price was much smaller that it's size and a relatively tender steak (well considering it was kosher !) cut into strips and mixed with salads hummous etc then deftly fitted and wrapped up in a "laffa" (...aka wrap !). We shared a large whipped ice cream with chocolate and toffee sauce drizzled over it which whilst milk free was really thick and creamy. The whole bill for 4 of us came to just over £40.....not bad at all considering some nearby competition costing considerably more with far less polite staff...AND we got to chat to some of the guests in the restaurant section afterwards turning what was going to be a quick bite to eat into a longer more relaxing evening out. Full marks to the staff and...
Read moreI was wildly unimpressed with my burger last night at JS it was dryer than the Sinai desert. I was a bit adventurous and went for a chilli con carne burger. I watched the "Chef" place some mush that i fingered was someones veterinarian option in a polistiren cup and microwave it and put it atop my burger.
The "chips" as the menu called them where closer to instant mash than any chip i have had before (Salt would have been nice) but the icing on the cake has to be the condiments i know alot of takeaways use non brannded condiments and thats fine but i think JS made there own and asked someone who has only heard of condiments in passing to do the task.
In conclusion i think i will just go round the corner to TA`AM way better food same price and ifs just a...
