I recently had the most magical fish and chips experience at a charming little shop called "Hirds Family Fisheries," where the server, Max, was not just an ordinary server, but a true wizard in every sense of the word. As soon as I stepped into the shop, I was immediately captivated by the warm and whimsical ambiance.
Max, the delightful wizard behind the counter, was a true showman. His tight-fitting women's tops, adorned with sparkling sequins and shimmering fabrics, added an enchanting touch to the entire experience. While some might raise an eyebrow at this unusual attire, I must say it perfectly suited his quirky and magical persona, making the visit all the more memorable.
The food at Hirds Family Fisheries was nothing short of extraordinary. The fish and chips were cooked to perfection, with a deliciously crisp batter that encased the flaky, tender fish inside. The chips were golden and crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and seasoned to perfection. It was evident that Max's culinary skills were as powerful as his wizardry.
The menu offered a variety of options, and Max was more than happy to offer suggestions and even shared some of his secret recipes, which added a touch of enchantment to the dishes. His passion for creating delightful culinary experiences was evident in every bite.
What truly set Hirds Family Fisheries apart was the exceptional service. Max not only served us with a big, warm smile but also entertained us with mesmerizing magic tricks as we waited for our order. It was like having dinner and a magic show all in one!
Beyond the amazing food and magical tricks, Max's genuine warmth and charm created an atmosphere of joy and excitement. He engaged with each customer, making everyone feel special and valued, leaving us all with smiles on our faces.
As I left Hirds Family Fisheries, I couldn't help but feel grateful for stumbling upon such a hidden gem. This fish and chip shop is not just about the delectable food but also about the enchanting experience that Max, the wizard server, conjures up for every visitor.
If you're looking for a truly magical fish and chips adventure, don't miss the opportunity to visit Hirds Family Fisheries. It's a place where delicious cuisine and wizardry combine to create an unforgettable experience that will leave you under its spell. I know I'll be returning to savor more of Max's enchanting...

Part 1
I'll set the scene, a couple of lads are out on a Friday afternoon after a hard morning's work, they drive and drive and their bellies start to grumble. Food is required.
Now with their eyes set on a fish and chip meal, they drive and drive again to the one place that relenquishes said hunger. Hird's Family Fisheries is the only right answer.
Entering the shop with their stomachs all empty, the five guys (not burgers and fries) set their sights on the menu. "A fish and chip it shall be" they all exclaim in unison. "A fish and chip I shall give you" replies Max Povey. And a fish and chip he does, placed into a box, "a tip for you Max Povey", and they're off. Sitting outside in the bitter cold warmed up by the fish and chip as they eat'eth it all down.
It tastes so devine there's nothing quite like it, we will come again one Friday afternoon and dine like Kings, we'll see you soon!
A certain 10/10
Part 2
So we are back again, hunger creeping in, and with Max Povey a' fryin', we of course are buyin'!
A lovely gentleman in a tight women's top greets us so, as the TV above him shadows down images of cyberbullying. 5 fish and chip please, the gentlemen exclaim, echose of reminisce linger from last time. "Coming right up!", says the mysterious server.
As we wait for a short while, we anticipate goodness, as good as the Lorax (a very good movie by the way). Salt or vinegar, the server in a normal top asks. Salt please, I don't like vinegar in 2023.
As we tuck into our award-winning delecacy, we slowly begin to recognise the server and his tight fitted women's top. Is that the man from the BBC top 10 fish and chip show? The one who is dragged to acca on occasion.
Could it be? The amazing Max Povey, food served from a literal demi-god!
But all good things must come to an end, and the Maximus Povey sends verbal daggers into me. "I am leaving Herds, have you heard?" We scream and cry as he laughs that classic grim, what a shocker!
We leave Herds in a state of distress, but full, and as much as we recommend, to come back may give us flashbacks.

Read moreMy first experience with Hirds Family Fisheries. Absolutely delicious food! I ordered gluten free fish and chips and wasn't disappointed with the taste or quality in the slightest.
Customer service was excellent, staff were friendly and efficient - with ordering gluten free I expected to be waiting a while, but it was pretty much on hand like a regular portion of fish and chips and once I'd placed my order, I was in and out of the shop within minutes.
The only reasons I've given four stars is because I would've liked to have been able to have my order delivered to West Vale and when using one of the delivery apps, it said that the area wasn't covered, whilst the other app bumped up the overall price to almost double the cost of what I paid for delivery (completely understand that this is probably out of your control). Also, the boxes for the food are great, but definitely don't maintain the heat as well when not wrapped in paper, so despite a short trip home, I ended up heating up in the microwave.
I was able to pay contactless, which was great and is important to me as a customer as I generally don't carry cash. It's also one of the only places (if not the only place) in Halifax where I've been able to find gluten free fish and chips so easily, so I'd like to thank you so much for being an inclusive company!
It was so refreshing to see how close you are as a company, there was definitely a great family feel!
I will definitely be returning in...
