There were six of us in the entire place tonight 3 x tables of 2. Wow how empty compared with years ago, but now living in the area and walking distance, were better to end up after a sunny summer stroll, than a previously great reputation local? On entering we ordered a couple of Gordon’s with slimline tonics.

So being Lactose and gluten intolerant limited my choices to one stater and one main course from the entire menu. Hello it’s 2023 Natasha’s law and we don’t chose to have allergies. My only main choice was a Chicken Peang. Just a slight problem here, they had no chicken! I asked for the “Chefs Special Salmon without butter on my potatoes, and ordered the only available starter option of Arancini.

So we ordered wine to complement our meal. By now the original 3 couples became 4.

After a while the Gordon’s arrived, tables around us were served before us and we eventually got our small mediocre starter.

We enjoyed our wine as everyone around us got served, so we waited, and waited….,and then waited some more. Eventually my partners cook chill out of the microwave Lasagne arrive as did my dried curled up Salmon. Oh dear worse was to follow, this was a “chef speciality dish” and the new potato accompaniment were raw. Now what chef can’t cook their “speciality dish” or even manage to cook a very simple boiled new potato?

It took some time for the waitress to appear to point out my situation, when I said raw potato’s are bad for the digestive tract, she giggled and agreed, and asked if I would like to speak to the manageress. I said not much point a raw potato is… just that a raw potato! Nonetheless the manageress was sent over, we discussed the meal, (by now my Fiancé had almost finished eating,) she said another meal would take 20 mins to cook, would I like something different? Mmmmm, what different did they have available to serve me, only thing they had available was a Chicken Penang curry without chicken as they only had the sauce? Oh dear educate the manager time. She offered me chips, mmm cooked in same fryer as deep fried cheese, next she offered me a sweet on the house. Ignorant of the fact that they don’t actually have a gluten lactose free sweet on the menu. You seriously cannot make this level of incompetence/ignorance up. What do staff have to aspire to with such a role model?

Moving on she said she wouldn’t charge for my main course. Oh not charging me for raw potatoes and a meal which would have made me I’ll. jeez you could not make this level of inadequacy up?

I made a point of mentioning we bought wine to go with our meal but I didn’t get a meal.

Double whammy departure after expressing our disappointment; the bill came and we were charged for two Hendricks, (the pricier option to the Gordons we ordered and I believed we were served.) Then came the plea of how busy they were (5 tables of couples) and how everybody had done their best. My fiancé expressed his disappointment at a place he had known for over 50 years, local and walkable.

The paring shot from the manageress was, “Everyone has worked hard tonight and at least you won’t be back”

Well done Vintage Inns we certainly won’t be back, as there are so many great restaurants in the area, with staff trained in allergies not attitude and ignorance. Maybe time to look what’s out there and how your competitors don’t discriminate but go...

Was there today for the Mother day 3 course meal £24.99 with my mother/sister/nephew arrived 220pm for 230pm booking was ask to wait out side they ask if would like a drink, we ask how long for the table she said it was just get cleaned 5 minutes or so we said we would wait to we sat at the table 30 minutes later we had to go in ask if are table was ready we sat down they ask us what drinks we would like after the drinks arrived, we had to ask someone else if we could order are food to other tables we're just finishing there food off, has we finished are starters the 2 other tables with new customer on them we're just getting there starters after they finished there starters both tables had received there mains on both tables, at one point we were asked what desserts we would like, then I had to ask why we haven't received are main course, and was told it was just getting cooked, the mains came with some vegetables missing on 2 mains, dessert came with my ice cream practically melted waitress brought some fresh ice cream out with out ask for it, ask for are bill notice a over charged on a drink mentioned to the waitress and about the service she went away then the owner/manager came to speak to us, she first off asked who she needs to speak to and ask what was the issues, after me already explaining to the waitress I thought it was clearly already explained, after explaining again she commented and said the reason why are mains where later then the two other tables because are one started scallops and prawns take 15 minutes to cook, to my knowledge it takes about 5 minutes poor excuse she seemed to come across if the food was not delayed and kept saying thank for your feedback, I just ask to pay the bill so we could leave after paying the bill once again she said thank for your feedback I am not quite sure how to take that I think a apology would have been more appropriate, the food was not bad but I would say the service was poor...

Booked online and specified food intolerances (not allergic) of egg gluten and dairy These intolerances push me towards a Sunday roast due to it being meat and veg Most places even offer gluten free gravy We were seated at a dirty sticky table so we moved This table also needed and was cleaned when asked. The table we moved from was not and just reset for the next guest to complain. Drinks ordered and received in good time but when ordering a roast beef Sunday roast I was informed that due to a new recipe the beef had a glaze and the chef could not serve me any roast dinner. No option to change meat or even serve some meat with no glaze. Intolerances not allergies. Never have I been refused a meal when there is an option to have or refuse some items In short DO NOT VISIT IF YOU HAVE INTOLERANCES AS THEY WILL NOT ACCOMMODATED AND DEFFO IF YOU ARE CELIAC AS NO MENU AVAILABLE. We went and had a Toby carvery without any issues and saved money in the process. In reply to the owners response below we have eaten at your restaurant many times alone and with family with no issues selecting from the menu using common sense and knowledge of what is in food. You chose to make change your menu and not be flexible when customers are ordering something that can be made gluten free with very little effort The only other options on the menu was steak or a curry that you could not guarantee for a CELIAC customer. My review stands. If the tables are sticky due to the sanitizer deep clean the tables. Don't just blame the products you use. Do you clean the plates after a customer uses them or just spray them with sanitizer and hope for the best. Lazy...

I recently dined at Nags Head and was thoroughly impressed by the wonderful service and delicious steak. From the moment we walked in, the staff were welcoming and attentive, ensuring that our dining experience was nothing short of exceptional. The ambiance of the restaurant was cozy and inviting, making it the perfect setting for a relaxing meal. The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the steak. Cooked to perfection, it was tender, flavorful, and simply melted in the mouth. The accompanying sides were equally delightful, complementing the main dish beautifully. The attention to detail and quality of ingredients truly stood out. However, the calamari was a bit of a letdown, as it was overly cornstarchy, which detracted from its overall flavor and texture. This was a minor hiccup in an otherwise excellent meal. Overall, Nags Head exceeded my expectations with its top-notch service and outstanding cuisine. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a memorable dining experience with a fantastic steak in Huddersfield. I will definitely be returning soon. TLDR: Lovely, dog-friendly and homely place to drink and eat from an ever-popular Vintage Inn brand. Great food and drink and a lovely atmosphere. Away from the main roads, but next to the motorway (so you can hear the hum of that when outside) is this lovely pub! Step in and you feel like you’re in a modern Yorkshire pub. There’s decent ales, cocktails and wines on offer, lots of choice. Theres bar snacks aplenty and then there’s the main food. The layout is comprised of three main areas: Bar with ample seating, casual dining Mid restaurant near an open fire (closer to the bar, more casual) Main restaurant in the converted barn (slightly more formal, but still casual) The food is superb, especially for the price. Expect around £20-£30 a head with a simple drink (don’t be saying I didn’t get the average right when you’re buying a £10 cocktail too 😂) The Arancini is a lovely starter full of flavour, and so is the garlic button mushroom dish. The penang curry with chicken or whatever you like actually is flavoursome, fruity, and floral with the jasmine rice. Steaks are always cracking quality for the price, as is gammon and fish and chips. For desert, we’ve had brownie, crumbles, ice creams…all of them actually. The flower pot is fun and novel and very tasty too! Don’t forget to get the app and collect rewards; they are good (like £10 off food after two visits!) Hopefully you found this helpful! Give it a like if you did so others see it 😉

Firstly, the food was very good. Crispy Camembert Bites were lovely and my ribeye was cooked just right with a lovely beef dripping sauce and my wife absolutely loved her chicken and smoked pancetta pie. That's the good, now for the bad. Where it loses stars is the terrible service, not just for us but the other diners around us too. The staff were polite enough but lack training and supervision. The waitress struggled using her tablet, couldn't find wife's drink, saying it had all just changed. We struggled all night to get her attention. She never asked if things were okay and stood daydreaming most of the time, like she didn't want to be there and was just going through the motions. My wife asked for a second drink and after 20 mins waiting I had to ask where it was. The waitress apologised that it'd been forgotten, but then it took at least another 10 mins to finally arrive, by which time we'd finished eating. Cutlery was forgotten on the table next to us and then again for us, then just plonked on the table upside down. We spent a good 10 mins trying to get the bill, even though it wasn't busy. The interior is potentially lovely but tired and in need of a good spruce up. The toilets were in dire need of updating and not that clean, which is never a good sign. The search goes on for great food AND service. Shame really, because the chefs were obviously doing their job well.
