11 things to see, eat + do in Canterbury - save this for your next visit to Kent! If you’re looking for a day trip from London idea or an overnight stay - you’ve come to the right place. Bonus is, the direct train is less than an hour away from London! (ad)

1) Visit The Goods Shed
Right next to Canterbury West, it’s a daily farmer’s market with fresh produce, cheese and wine shops, deli, restaurant and a wine bar. One of my highlights of the visit!
2) See Westgate Towers - it has a viewpoint, a museum and even an escape room inside

3) Stroll past The Old Weaver’s House, a 16th century building now turned into a pan-European restaurant!

4) Peek at The Ducking Stool or even go punting on a river tour!

5) Enjoy coffee and pastries at Fringe + Ginge! Lovely team, brilliant coffee and a great spot to people watch from

6) Walk around the nearby area to see The Crooked House and other independent shops (including an Oboe Specialist one!)

7) Marvel at Canterbury Cathedral, it’s free to walk around but tickets cost £14 for adults to go inside

8) Have Japanese food at family restaurant Happy Samurai - highly recommend booking if you fancy a visit as it gets very busy during peak times

9) Stay overnight at Falstaff, it’s right in the centre of town, a 4 minute walk from the train station and is housed in a 15th century building

10) Pop downstairs to the hotel bar for the best drinks in town! Great selection of cocktails!

11) Have a delicious brunch at The Refectory Kitchen before you go, my favourite meal of the visit. You HAVE to get the Refectory Brunch (and the hot sauce). The portions are huge!

OVERVIEW A 5* must for the quaint, rustic experience and exceptional service! PLUS + The restaurant’s interior was rustic and quaint, with a naturalist vibe that reflected the authentic, locally sourced menu. + Exceptional service: quick, informative, attentive, and personable staff who seemed genuinely happy to be there! Complimentary tea for queuing customers. + Overall, the food was just okay. However, the recreated breakfast/brunch classics elevated the menu to a 4* level. + “The Bennies” was outstanding—my best egg royale so far: 5*. + Plant-based condiments and alternative milk options. + Catered to meal modification requests. + Breakfast/brunch dishes priced between £13-15 were enough to fulfil and satisfy. + The perfect chinwag spot for two! MINUS - Due to the restaurant’s small size and popularity, one can often expect to queue outside. - The restaurant could benefit from a quick, hassle-free table QR code payment method. ORDER HISTORY Breakfasts: * THE REFECTORY VEGGIE UP * HOUSE SMOKED SALMON AND AVOCADO * THE BENNIES * BELGIAN WAFFLE Tea: * Sapphire earl grey

When we lived in Caterterbury we would head here for brunch all the time! We moved away in 2019 and today was our first time back to Refectory Kitchen since. You might expect that a place would go downhill in that time but this place has only gotten better. Food has always been fantastic and the only downside at the time (why I only rated it 4* back then) was because the wait times for food were rather excessive. But in the years since our last visit the team have rectified that issue and now we barely had to wait 5 minutes for our food! Everything was fresh, absolutely delicious and service was fantastic! They are very dog friendly too as they welcomed our 2 doggos in with welcome arms! Without a doubt the BEST place for breakfast/brunch in...

Visited here with our two children (3 and 5). From start to finish it was a real delight! The staff and service are second to none, very welcoming and nothing is too much to ask.

The menu is great! It's lovely to see classic dishes given a real twist! They pride themselves on sourcing local produce and even smoke their own salmon...

I was also very impressed with the decor/layout of the place, for a small space it feels open which really adds to the atmosphere. My children loved their breakfasts and I was a big fan of the breakfast burger.

If you're in Canterbury and feeling hungry, I 100% recommend the refectory will fill your tummy and you'll leave with a smile on your face. We will certainly be back if we visit Canterbury...
