We had a group of 5 people do "The Comms Room" escape room. As a bit of background, we all had previous escape room experience but all from different ones.
We initially had an amazing charismatic games master but realized we were taken to the wrong room. Our games master of the room we were supposed to have been doing found us and swapped us around.
Our new games master was very nervous and we didn't have a brilliant introduction of what the room was about. There was a lot of um and ah'ing, but I can forgive that as I am a nervous public speaker too. The introduction we had from him was done in the general waiting room for the bar. So it was really noisy and we had so many people walk between us to get to the exit/entrance and forth. It was hard to concentrate.
We were then taken to the single room and was told to solve the clues. We had no idea what was going on. A lot of the time we were standing around watching the videos (which had no relation to actually solving the escape room and felt like a time waster). If you needed a hint, you just get a picture of the clue on a screen (rather than the games master interactively in character giving you hints like the previous escape rooms I've done). There was only 1 puzzle to solve at a time so there was a lot of standing around for a group of 5 people.
We managed to escape in 54 minutes and whilst we did enjoy the fact that it was in a historic room, it felt like more of a cash grab than an actual fun escape room.
We were told that with our tickets we were able to go see the museum for free, but because there was another escape room going on during that time we couldn't do that. They did say we can come back a different day but I live 1.5 hours away so I couldn't come back anytime soon.
The ticket also includes 10% off at their bar, but after we finished our escape room we tried to order drinks but were turned away as they were full. You would've thought when we booked the tickets they would ask if we would like to book a table at the bar at the same time.
Overall it was a so-so experience and if I could tell my past self not to go then I would. I had high hopes for this place and was amazed at the amount of 5* reviews but was...
Read moreWe had a really good experience. Don’t mind our uncle in the photo, he very quickly realised that we take escape rooms far too seriously and that doing one with us was a mistake. The staff were really friendly though. Our uncle has difficulty hearing and they turned up the volume on all of the clues so that he could hear everything. The staff also allowed us to go up the tower after the game to view the museum and the rooftop. It was so cool being able to do an escape room in a piece of history. We were in the cell rooms which included heaps of code cracking and clue finding. They even integrated historical objects into the game like the electric chair and old pictures of the soldiers originally stationed in the tower. It makes the museum so much more meaningful. Special thanks to the manager that we dealt with during the booking process. He was very considerate and took plenty of time to explain everything to our uncle. It was much appreciated. We completed another escape room days earlier and it didn’t have a full bar and food. We will definitely return when...
Read moreReally great! Me and my wife did the WW2 themed room, and it was one of the best two person rooms we've done! I think it might be a bit small 'physically' for more than 3 people, but they cram a LOT into that space! Some really clever and unique puzzles that I've never seen before, with some absolutely fantastic theme, totally immersive. A lot of escape rooms have a theme, but this one actually has a story, with mounting tension, stakes and drama that culminate in a genuinely tense final climax. Our host Haden was really helpful and enthusiastic, there's clearly been a huge amount of love and effort poured into this.
I wasn't going to choose the WW2 themed room initially, but it was the only one available at the time we could make it, but in hindsight I'm really glad we ended up doing that one. I could have finished my review with that previous paragraph, but I feel like I've failed to capture some ineffable quality that made it a really 'complete' experience, satisfying in a way that few other puzzles are....
