Food was ok but service wasn't that great. Had booked a table in the garden for a smallish group of 12 parents and children for lunch and got there early before the lunch rush deliberately. We were told that we would have to have the party menu as we were a large group ( 7 adults and 5 small children). The party menu was clearly a dinner menu at £20 for two courses with limited choice. We opted to order from the lunch menu anyway. We were then informed that because we hadn't ordered from the party menu the food wouldn't come together. As if to illustrate that point the food then came out randomly, presumably deliberately, with random starters and mains, no family's order was complete with many people finishing before the rest of their family's food had arrived. Mains came without salads or accompaniments which had to be requested. No apologies at any time. The place was at the most 2/3rd to 3/4's full, not all tables even eating. No thanks or acknowledgement when we left. Needless to say 5 local families won't be in a rush to return. It's a nice building but there are better pubs locally with friendly staff and nicer gardens. There are better Mexican restaurants nearby too if you...

I have been there a few times since I moved in Canterbury. It is ok, a bit pricey for what is offered but no complaints. This is why it gets 2 instead of 1 star.

What makes me give this low review, is the quality of the food and its portion when we had a staff party a few months ago. I had never tasted worse food before. Let's ignore a bit the fact that the portion was for that of a toddler. Three thin slices of turkey, and 3 potatoes. Well done. The pork belly beyond belief disgusting and almost vomiting, didn't even come with any decent side (a small patch of salad). My table group left so hungry we went to another place to get something to eat, or ate at home.

Even the fries were a tough job for the "cook", being half raw in the middle. For crying out loud how can you not even properly cook fries? Cook them until they get this nice golden color. Also, very limited kitchen in terms of working hours...went there around 8, was told the kitchen can't handle more orders. If you can't handle people on your tables close shop, shut it down.

If I didn't have those bad experiences, the place is...

Went into this pub today, as I had a while ago, but it has changed, was not greeted with an hello or any other greeting, so I ordered 1 roast & 1 chicken, bacon, and leek pie& mash? The girl serving looked over at me like I was mad, so I had to explain to her I’m waiting to order? But felt like I was putting her out. She nearly moved her face. Roast had hardly any gravy, so dry, the pie top was as hard as a rock, and nearly broke the knife, it was not good, the plates came first,( not with a smile) and had to wait while she chatted to her friend, then had to wait again, for condiments, I’ve seen a rocket move faster. The staff dress code is not good for a pub serving food. There was no toilet tissue in the ladies, and the gents smelt strongly of urine, We never finished our food or our drinks, could not wait to leave,...

The staff and the environment were nice but the food was appalling. I ordered a chicken salad at a normal price of £11.95, not especially cheap. Couldn’t believe my eyes when it finally arrived. The portion of the salad was unbelievably small, with only a few leaves of rockets. This portion of vegetables is less than a side dish. Are vegetables that expensive? Why can't they serve a decent size of food to customers? Talking about the chicken, the meat was so dry and stringy that I had to stop after a few bites. My husband’s fish and chips was not much better. The batter was very oily and he said that’s the worst he’d ever eaten in Canterbury. When such quality of food is served, plus very slow service, no wonder there are barely any other customers even at lunch hours.

A pub that has been on my to visit list for ages. Been here twice now. Lovely interior. Always love an old looking pub with hobs hanging from the ceiling and exposed timber beams. It's never been busy so it's easy to grab a drink. Barman on both occasions was very friendly and accommodating. Haven't eaten so can't rate the food.

I haven’t been here in years due to the old covid, but popped in for lunch before picking the kids up from school. Boy, am I glad I did! I had the guacamole with tortilla chips to start and the grilled cheese lunch burrito. Both very fresh and utterly scrum-diddly-umptious! Highly recommend for lunch or dinner. I’ll be back…
