I was really disappointed in my visit. Me and my partner ordered the classic dog, mac n cheese burger with no tomato chutney and a side of the mac n cheese. After ordering and paying, a member of staff came over and told us that they only had enough of the mac n cheese for the burger and also they had no nachos or wings so we were going to get a refund on the mac n cheese as we fancied nothing else which was fine. Then we waited close to an hour for our food to come and the hot dog only had one sausage and no onions (was told after asking about the onions that’s they ran out half way through the order before us!) and the burger had the tomato chutney which we had asked to not have! At this point we were so unhappy with the whole situation that we decided to not eat and send the food back. We are thankful to the member of staff who processed our refund but overall disappointed as this is the local pub to where my partner lives and I was so excited to take him here as I really wanted to support a fully vegan place as being a vegan myself I know these places are few and far between. I hope we can visit again so our minds can be changed...
Read moreIt is our local but people of all ages and walks of life come here. Sam and his great team are extremely friendly and have created a warm and cosy atmosphere since Sam took over ownership of this lovely pub. Serving exceptionally good wines and beer. We are excited at the idea of food being provided in the next few weeks. There is a pub quiz on Mondays and piano playing on Thursday evenings and Sunday afternoon. Just feel so lucky to have this great place on our doorstep.
If you are in Canterbury and are visiting the historic St Dunstan’s church (where Henry II changed into a hair shirt for his walk of penance following the murder of Thomas Beckett) glance across the road and you will see The Monument public house. Venture inside and you will be greeted by very friendly staff whose friendliness is matched only by the quality of the vegetarian food which is prepared and served there. An added bonus are the views of St Dunstan’s from the courtyard and garden. A hidden gem waiting to be...
Read moreMy daughter and I visited from Buckinghamshire on 12/8/19. Both being vegan we searched out The Monument as it promised to be a great option for us. It certainly was. I had the BBQ Burger which was, quite frankly, one of the best burgers I’ve ever had. Topped with cheesy SAUCE and crispy homemade onion rings people! This burger was off the charts. My daughters eyes were bigger than her belly, she ordered Mac & Cheese & the huge Chilli Fries. She was defeated. And reckons it was the best Mac & Cheese, double winner!
Great portion size, value for money, flavours phenomenal. The staff clearly put an enormous amount of love and care into what they do and it shows in the dishes they serve. The pub itself is lovely inside, warm, welcoming and relaxed. Meat eaters will love this place too, it’s somewhere the carnivores will enjoy the experience just as much as the plantivores.
We loved our mum/daughter lunch here and can’t wait to bring the rest of the family back when we next...
