If I could leave 0 stars I would. What a bunch of nasty staff this place has. There was one lady who served our breckfast who was decent but the two men and older lady WOW. I know this is a chain of green kings pubs but they normally are fine and very child friendly. Now we did travel In a large group of 19 and 7 of these were boys aged 8 & 9 what is I assume why anything we asked for was a massive problem. We arrived at 5.15pm in the restaurant hoping to get some food it was very busy what’s unstable but there was a large table booked at 7.45pm I asked if we could use it for 1 hour the 1st lady said yes then someone come over and put a sign on saying it was booked out for 15 mins time. So we went else where to eat (shoutout to the coach & horses for accommodating 19 of us within 15 mins! ) we arrived back to the bridge inn and there was still no one sat on the large table at 8.15pm we asked if we could sit and have a drink they said no we give 1 hour for them to turn up (you defo don’t it’s 15mins in any green kings!) they just didn’t want us there because we had 7 children but it’s ok for every man in there on drugs yeah? We found a Small table in the corner where some of us stayed for a drink and while the bar staff made hand gestures to our children no one still turned up to the large table they still wouldn’t give us. We stayed in the premier inn ajoining to the pub so we had booked breakfast prior food was good but a older lady screaming at the kids saying they were going to break the glass in a tall door for what trying to open it? They didn’t know it was closed as they was using it the evening before to get out, I get 7 boys are hard work but your staff have no right to speak to these children with such rudeness any issues you speak to an adult parent and we decide how we speak to them, not scream at them for trying to go outside. Yes there hard work but there boys age 8&9 maybe you shouldn’t allow children at all if it’s...
Read moreI must say that whether it was simply a busy time of year or staff and management inadequacies I'm not really sure but New Year's Eve 2013 will be truly unforgettable due to the Charnley Arms in Standish. We had travelled with a couple of Scottish friends to stay at the hotel next door for New Year's celebrations. On ordering we first of all were advised that the all-day kitchen had mysteriously closed at 3pm and there would be no more food orders taken. My husband naturally asked why this had not been reported in advance or even posted anywhere inside or outside the building.
Eventually we were served something 'basic and simple' and told that we had to sit in the pub seating area as the restaurant was being prepared for a fully booked evening service. The meals arrived and unfortunately the chicken tasted of fish and my husband's meal was still part frozen. No refund was offered (possibly due to the 2 for 1 policy) and what came as a surprise to the serving staff, we did not want the same again as a replacement course. As expected no site manager was available for comment and as we were leaving to spend the evening in our room in disgust, a rather horrifying scenario unveiled.
A young couple with two children from hotel next door were also given the restaurant closed tale but this time were told categorically that they would not even be allowed to eat at the pub tables at any time and were welcome to stay in the building as long as they as a family were "content to stand up and not eat for the duration of the evening". Once again nothing had been pre warned at point of booking. I admire them for keeping their cool as in the same situation I certainly would not have done.
The disappointment of having an evening away treat ended like that with no concern or tact from the staff was absolutely unbelievable. Our advice is simple Charnley...
Read moreWent here to eat with my wife after shopping at Gretna. We ordered a regular and an xl cheeseburger with extra onion rings and garlic bread. Cant go wrong with that can you?. Well here you can!. The burger meat was dry and tasteless. The bun was last weeks and there was some yellow stuff congealed to one of the pattys. Without going into much more detail. If we had not been hungry it would have all been left. The onion rings were microwave burn your mouth hot and the garlic bread was soaked in some kind of clear liqid and stank. The Carlsberg was watery, flat and tasteless. All in all it was absolutely rubbish and we will not be returning. The memory of the visit lingers even now as i am off to the loo yet again. The site refused to let me post this without givingn one star. It does not deserve one star. I rate the Gosling Bridge at minus 5 stars for food and drink. Service was good though...
Just to add to this review. We have been visiting Gretna Retail Outlet for the past 4 years to do a bit of Christmas shopping and a night away from home. We are both pensioners and cannot afford to take holidays away in summer and these days away mean a lot to us. 4 years ago when we first did this trip Gosling Bridge was excellent, good food, beers and a friendly relaxed atmosphere. We always visit about 4pm so not too busy. Second year the menu had changed with not as much choice but we found something to suit both of us. Third year we walked out as the place was like a creche with kids running everywhere and this year it just killed it for us both. Read comments above. Just as an aside The Gretna Shopping outlet has gone down the tubes to what it was 4 years ago. My favourite was the whisky shop where you could buy small batch whiskys, now sadly gone. We will not be visiting this part of the country again for...
