On arrival this looked promising but when we got to our room it wasn't clean; my friend got someone else hair caught in her feet the minute she took her shoes off, and the toilet wasn't clean on the outside and was frankly disgusting. The twin room we had was decorated in a strange and very dark way, like a brothel, and we had no hangers for our clothes and nowhere to put any clothes away. Two satin robes were hanging on a rail which left us perplexed what we were meant to do - wear them or look at them? There was a display cabinet with an iron and ironing board in it which was weird.|As soon as we arrived we had to immediately book a time, and place our order, for breakfast. The staff member should really have given us a moment to check in to our room first as we'd walked 13 miles that day and were clearly very exhausted, dirty and needed a rest.|In the morning we waited and waited for breakfast at the time we'd given. There was nothing to eat that you could help yourself too so for the cost this is disappointing. There was no toast, cereals or fruit available at all. We chased up our breakfast after 30 minutes to be told 'two minutes'. A further 15 minutes went by and we asked again. Apparently the chef kept splitting the hollandaise - well I say don't have it on the menu if you cant make it, or give us a chance to not have it. After 45 minutes we had to abandon breakfast as we needed to go.|I have emailed the Swan twice about this and have not had a reply. All in all a very expensive visit for very little. I'm sure there are plenty better places in...
Read moreWe were recommended The Swan by a local friend and can confirm that it was good advice. We had dinner there last week and are booked to return no Friday.||The menu is small but we were told that it is changed regularly and one off changes also made depending on availability and quality of certain ingredients.||The scallops were the best I have ever had. Served, very sensibly, with an excellent parsnip purée and apple matchsticks which complemented the delicate flavour. Why they are often served (not here) with chorizo which destroys their delicate flavour escapes me.||The lamb three ways was also very good. A decent amount of meat and good vegetables.||The cheese board was very generous and more than enough for us to share.||I forgot to mention the superb and very fresh bread served at the beginning of the meal with real butter (no nasty little packets here).||The wine list is small but very adequate and there is a sensibly priced range of reds, whites and a couple of rose plus champagne.||Overall excellent quality at fair prices for generous portions.||During a chat with the very friendly proprietor we discovered the chef (Morgan) had trained under Michel Roux Jr and his father so the quality and high standard of the food should endure. Morgan also came out to chat with us as well . All the staff were friendly and efficient. Nice big tables as well.||We will certainly come again regularly.||Thank you all for a very enjoyable evening and an...
Read moreBelow is an email we sent this hotel, hoping for a reply, but as we did not receive anything we are now leaving it here for all to read: To whom it may concern We stayed at your hotel on Friday 23rd September 22 and we just thought you might like to know how our stay went. When we entered our room, first impression was, nice & clean, but as time went on we realised that this was not the case. Firstly the fan did not work in the bathroom and then we noticed how much dirt & dust was in the vent. Only one light working in the bathroom. Shower head in need of a clean. Shower stat not working, as when turn to full cold, water still comes out hot. With the macerator toilet installed, this gave off a sewage smell, which was not particularly pleasent. Only one bedside lamp working. Cob Webb's on ceiling, bags & rubbish found in some drawers. Although we realise that the building is very old, the windows need stops to prevent opening too wide, as very dangerous & illegal. Also one thing that was very annoying was the emergency light, which lit up the room bright green all night. We appreciate the hotel is under new management, but it's clear to see that the rooms need some proper attention. This was our first stay in midhurst and whilst we found this lovely village our stay at the Swan Hotel was very disappointing, but we hope you take on board our comments to improve the stay for future customers. Kind regards Miss...
