This is my third time eating here and I meant to write a review the first time I went but got complacent. This time, I visited with a friend.
First impressions, it's a cute little cafe that makes a warming presence on Pall Mall. You enter and you can either order for take away or sit in where there are about 6 or so tables for two (and maybe a table for four, though I can't remember. Most likely not, will need verifying.)
Waiter/waitresses that I have met are very nice. You can get drinks whenever you want and then bring them up to the counter. Lovely drinks like Mogu Mogu and Ramune are available, but they do have western drinks if you prefer.
Takoyakis are some of the best starter dishes I have ever had; the sweetness of the relish is delectable (be careful not to burn your mouth, it can leave tears on the roof of your mouth if you eat too quickly due to how hot they are). I then had some furikake don, which was nice and spicy. Not too spicy but a great burst of flavour. Prawn gyozas are very crunchy and come with a sweet sauce that enhances the shell. And to finish off, I had some miso soup (which I came to realise that I am not the biggest fan of tofu because it naturally lacks flavour but oh well. And I forgot to photograph) and some prawn tempura supumen (noodles), which come with very thick noodles. I actually find it easier to eat the noodles with chopsticks (which means hashi in Japanese, which also means bridges, the choice depends on your syllable pitch) than I do with the spoon provided, but the spoon helps with the tempura and the soup of the broth.
Too long, didn't read: It is a very warm and welcoming little cafe, and a gem of Pall Mall. So far one of my favourite places to eat and will definitely be a returning customer. My friend also loves this place and he has never had Japanese food before. If you are a fan of fish and want to try eastern cuisine, you ought to...
Read moreThis is the new home of our favourite Sushi Chef who owned the sorely missed NISHI SUSHI CAFE in Chorley, which served the best Sushi Ever! Wahkil or better known to his regulars as Nishi, demonstrates his passion for incredible Sushi by using only the finest ingredients, he honestly creates hands down the nicest sushi, and we as a family have taken the opportunity to enjoy Sushi at every sushi restaurant we’ve spotted along our travels, as true lovers of sushi.
Nishi remains the bar to beat when it comes to dining out at other sushi restaurants. Tonight we as a family visited NISHI SUSHI RESTAURANT, traveling purposely from chorley to Stetford for the third time since his relocation, we left feeling very happy will full bellies and happy hearts. Such a lovely man and genuinely hope his relocation to Stretford is a successful one amd that locals to Stretford appreciate what a gem they’ve adopted!
If you’ve not tried Nishi sushi yet? I implore you to book in and I promise you great food, and a pleasant experience meeting the man himself and his team, please do say Hi from me Kim from Chorley if you read this and you do go, tell him we need Nishi Sushi back in Chorley, but until we tempt him back to Chorley we will continue to travel to visit and support this great chef!
Also as a footnote, this is also a really good value sushi restaurant compared to other sushi restaurants you won’t leave hungry with empty pockets. You might end up taking some home though as you’ll probably want to try...
Read moreI've been to Mags quite a few times now and LOVE it! It is a lovely small Japanese cafe and mags is really friendly. She will answer any questions about the menu with a smile and will advise you on how to eat the dishes (ie mix the noodles to get the best of the broth and sauce etc.) My friends and I have made this our regular meeting place for lunch, it is that good! We usually share a different starter and then have our own choice of main and drink and the cost has never been much over £10, but recently we've started doing 'japas' (Japanese tapas!) And that's amazing too. We've shared up to 8 starters between us and the price has still been around £13 including a drink. It is amazing value for money considering the quality. I have yet to have the sushi as that needs ordering but I have some ordered for my next visit.
Edit, I've tried the sushi now and it is incredible! You just need to discuss with mags what you are after and she will make it fresh for the day you need it. We had some inside and took the rest home. Mags even made the leftovers look pretty by putting it into a smaller tray and giving us a small tub of soy sauce.
I would DEFINITELY...
