The Woodsman — Restaurant in Chorley

We used to be regulars before it changed hands, so I thought we would book a table for 22nd December. I rang to book the table on 12th December, i had to ring twice before someone answered the phone. I then asked for a table for 8 people, the guy on the phone was not very professional and sounded like he just couldn't be bothered, but I booked my table. As I wasn't confident, I decided to try and call again last night to confirm my booking. I rang in excess of 20 times between 5.30pm and 7.15pm before I managed to speak to someone. The lady said she had to grab the diary but then left me sat there 20 minutes waiting!!! I decided to hang up and try to call, and I kept trying to call back for another half hour before I gave up and messaged them on Facebook. They had left me there waiting, with the phone off the hook for all that time. It is far from professional and is not the way to treat paying customers. Someone messaged me back on Facebook following my complaint, and not a single apology provided. They offered to ring me, but as i was then working I asked them to confirm my booking, to be told it was booked. Not an apology, not an ounce of sympathy for my troubles. I had cancelled a very nice restaurant to give this place the benefit of the doubt, but I am now cancelling and going elsewhere. Our dining experience was off to a shaky start with the young waitress not complying with our order request for drinks. The excuse was 'she didn't dispense the drinks'! After some back and forth exercise we got the requested drinks and went on to order our meal. I had the salmon fillet special served with asparagus on a bed of new potatoes. My friend had scampi, peas and fries. My salmon was hard and I had to slice it as if eating beef steak so it was overcooked and had been lying around some time before bringing to the table. My friend's scampi was fine. It was just as well the final bill was discounted under the eat for less scheme as I would have not wished to pay £11.99 for the special mains. With poor table service and no table check at the start of the meal, I will not be returning any time soon. We were never asked when paying at the table whether or not we had enjoyed our meals; I felt certain the waitress already knew the answer....! Well we have just been for our Xmas meal for 10people we booked 3months ago and came n last wk to pay and to put menu in for all meals And was very disappointed we told staff and panic across face ?!!! Party of 10 !??? No tables reserved or set up and girl sent out to rush n push 4/5tables together and could not swine a cat !!! So refused the seating !! So they set us up by bar n TV lounge .food well had better traditional turkey dinner no sprouts cran very sauce roast potatoes were all covered with pepper !! And the Xmas pudding ??
