We've been wanting to try Bangla Spice since moving to the area 18 months ago, finally managed to go last weekend. We booked a table for the 2 of us and our little boy (age 3). Overall enjoyed it but wasn't thrilled with the service levels, the staff were not very attentive.
We sat down and tended to our little boy while looking at the menu, they came to take our order but we wasn't quite ready so we asked for a couple more minutes. They didn't return for longer than we expected but lots of waiters walked past us several times. They came back to take our order after about 10 minutes. We ordered drinks and asked what they had for children - they had cups of cordial but thats all, no bottles of juice or anything (everywhere usually has fruit shoot or equivalent) so we opted for no drink for him as I didn't fancy juice everywhere (he's clumsy, knocks it everywhere, not got the greatest cup control just yet etc.), luckily I had a bottle of water in my bag for him. I think all restaurants should offer a bottled drink for children as that's what most would order. Anyway we ordered the food and drinks and then the drinks and starter came fairly quickly.
Starter we had poppadoms and chutney tray which was nice, the chilli sauce wasn't spicy at all more of a coriander taste to it (I'm not a fan of the chilli sauce or coriander but my husband prefers it with more of a kick). Not the end of the world, we enjoyed it anyway. They came to clear the plates after the poppadoms and they took away the chutney tray quickly without asking (we hadn't noticed as they were gone so fast) but usually when we go to any Indian Restaurant they ask if we want to keep the chutney tray for the table to use with the mains so we thought this was the norm but they took it away. Again not the end of the world but we would have liked to keep it at the table to eat with our mains. Our drinks were low too and they didn't ask if we wanted any more drinks (again they were gone so fast we didn't get chance to ask).
We sat waiting for our mains and we had finished our drinks and were sat with empty glasses for quite a while. Again several waiters walked past (not close enough for me to flag them down but you'd think they'd be looking at who needs service as they go by) but never came to ask if we wanted more drinks or anything. Our mains came and I asked the waiter if we could have more drinks which he arranged. We ate our mains and I wasn't feeling well (pregnancy related) so I left mine and later asked for a doggy bag to take it home for later. Husband enjoyed his food just said it wasn't as flavoursome as he was expecting (it was the equivalent dish to what he usual gets from other Indian Restaurants), little one enjoyed his kids tikka, and I enjoyed my mixed kebab and onion bhajis (when I ate it at home later) - the meats were very soft and well flavoured.
A few minutes into eating the meal a waiter passed and asked how the food was and we explained it was fine. Then during the course of eating our meal we drank our drinks again and was again say with empty glasses for a while (I was only drinking cola too which was a very small glass so it went down really quickly). Again nobody came to check if we wanted more drinks or anything. We sat with empty glasses until we had finished eating and then someone came to clear our plates - I asked for a doggy bag for mine (to eat at home later) which I had to package up myself due to covid, and we asked for more drinks and the dessert menu. We got the drinks and an ice cream for the little one. We paid and left.
We quite enjoy Indian food and have been to several Indian Restaurants, in particular one in Wigan where we used to live. We eat out at Restaurants regularly, once a week where we can. Through our experience at Indian Restaurants, and Restaurants in general, we have come to expect certain service levels. We expect waiters to be attentive and drinks to be kept flowing. This was not the case at Bangla Spice.
The food was fine but our overall experience was let down by the...
Read moreI've only been here the once. The place is unbelievably clean, the staff are unbelievably friendly, the kingfisher beer (on draft) is excellent but... I've been eating curry dishes for over thirty years and eaten in Indian restaurants all over our country. My curry sauce tasted just like it was out of a jar of your best known brand, I was very disappointed but because everything else was absolutely spot on, I didn't feel the need to complain but I won't be returning. The two stars is only for our very dissapointing curry sauce, the restuarant should be five stars.
Having just returned again on a family gathering my review remains almost the same. If you like a really good curry (and you know what one is), this is not the place for you. I can't speak for the rest of the food but their madras sauce is absolutely awful. Such a shame. They need a good curry chef. And finally, Cobra on draft is ok but it's...
Read moreWe celebrated my sons 30th birthday there 12.07.2020. There was 3 children and 4 adults. The food was excellent and very tasty. We all ordered some thing different and had a try of them all. The kids loved it that much one of them asked could he have his birthday tea there. The staff were very friendly they all had masks and gloves on for our and their protection which pretty impressed me. The menu was variable and one of my granddaughters tried some thing new and loved it. Both me and my husband have been there before and never had a bad meal its always been top quality. Thank you guys for making the day special even under these odd circumstances you pulled it all off. I highly recommend this...
