Stayed here on my way back from a trip to Scotland Let me tell you good and bad points.
Good points Receptionist was friendly and informative and explained where the room was and meal times and also asked if I would like to book dinner and if I wanted to use the leisure facilities. The room was in the Leyland Wing on the lower ground floor and was nicely decorated with a mural of Paddy Hopkirk racing his mini at Monte Carlo on the wall behind the bed. Tea and coffee and a hairdryer in the room as well as a flat screen tv and an i phone/ipod player. Plenty of cupboard space and a free standing wardrobe. The bathroom had a bath and shower and toiletries and towels. Bed was very comfy. The leisure centre has a good sized pool, Jaccuzi, steam room and sauna. There is also a gym. Bar is in the large open reception area with plenty of comfortable seating and tables. Toilets in reception area. There was also a buffet in the reception at lunchtime though I am not sure whether this was only for coach parties. Meeting rooms off the reception area if you need these. Huge car park. Wi-fi throughout hotel (free).
Bad points.
No lift to lower ground floor which is down a flight of stairs had to help a lady with a walking stick who was struggling. Doors are on a card system which seemed to work the opposite way to places I have stayed before this seemed to confuse a lot of guests as other people along the room corridor were struggling. 3.Bathroom in the room needs updating looks like it was installed when leyland cars were still in business. 4.There was a metal eye hook in the pool that I nearly banged my head on which I presume is for a net or something bit dangerous though. Breakfast disaster and worst part of stay. I was shown to a table that had not been cleared despite other tables being available this was hastefully cleared and cleaned with a spray that contaminated the sugar (Lucky I dont take any). Coffee arrived but no milk which I got a glass of from the cereal area as staff seemed to have disappeared. No plates for toast after a staff member finally appeared he went and got one. Only strawberry jam available for toast no other spreads. Buffet breakfast was a bit cold. Waiting staff were not very friendly and there were not enough of them for the size of the breakfast room. No signs to say where the leisure centre is I had to ask at reception. Dont expect a large gym with lots of equipment I was told by a local that used the leisure centre that it only has 2 prices of equipment and wasnt worth using and often isn't working. It would be better with a bluetooth speaker as not everyone has an i phone/ pod which makes the speaker in the room pretty useless.
Advice
Rear park of car park is for guests and is well signposted.
Lots of coach parties who get up early for breakfast so best to wait until later in the morning.
Register your car at the automatic system in reception car parking is run by an outside company and has a hefty fine if you dont. £100 when I Was there in July.
No need to take towels to the pool they give you them there. Take a pound coin for the lockers (refunds when...
Read moreA good hotel with a few issues. Parking is good, the reception area quiet, cosy and welcoming. The bar staff were incredibly friendly and the following mornings' all you can eat buffet breakfast was better than most hotels. We didn't like the spa steam room being out of order. Neither did we like the room we were given, when we arrived it had used cotton buds still on the carpet besides each side of the double bed, a hole in the carpet and stains on the ceiling. The room was very very dusty across all surfaces and fixtures, I left a message written in the dust in the hope the cleaners take the hint. The desk area near the tv had lots of liquid spillage stains and splashes on the front of the drawers. I also looked behind the wardrobe in our room to see thick well established spider webs which had been there for a very long time. Overall not a dirty room but you can tell the cleanliness is not audited regularly. The biggest annoyance was the lack of clean towels, when we asked at reception we were asked to check our room again (in case we didn't know how to use our eyes) in all the cupboards and to call reception if we still couldn't find any. We called reception as per the instruction and were told someone would bring them right away since my partner was stood in the bathroom air drying after taking a shower. We gave up and used a small hand towel. After going out for dinner, drinks in the bar and several hours later still no towels. When we asked at reception again, the same person said they would take some up. We found them dumped in a pile just inside the doorway when we returned to the room. Why could they not have done that hours earlier? So overall a nice hotel which reluctantly leaves a bad impression in my mind. I'd return, but overall I've seen better cleaning standards in a travelodge at a quarter the price...
