Dantes - it's had so many incarnations - firstly it was a newsagents, then they opened a Deli ( run by Nancy & Daniella ) then they closed down - had a big refurbishment and now iut's a family restaurant - they are so welcoming from when you open the door , you just want to be there all night ! - Remo, Sandrez , Daniella & Nancy run a very fast and attentive service - whilst Fabio & Dante are locked in the kitchen below you sending up marvellous food in the speedy lift ! - the cutlery, glasses, setting and hustle and bustle is very very nice- you have to pinch yourself and realise you are not in Leith, you are in Colinton Village eating in a magic restaurant that sedrves the BEST STEAK EVER and served with Spinach or fries ( or both!) - Fabio tells me it is hung for a few weeks, to really seal the juices in - order Medium/Rare for a tasty meal ! - i have been here more times than probably any restaurant in Edinburgh and most recently the night before i got married in May 2012, i like to keep this little gem for special occasions - the food portions are just right and the wine ( Italian of course!) is always served with polite style and always with a smile from the boys running the floor, if you don't like it - another bottle is quickly served til you are happy again. - excellent service and costs a bit more than your local pub - you're paying for happy fast service at dantes and if you want pirivacy - they'll leave you alone - or if you're a local from Colinton you can chat and the staff are very knowledgable about the local area and everyone knows everyone inside. it's like coming home and you don't have to wash up! - can't wait to go here again - bring friends along who arent from Colinton and the family inside will make you feel...
Read moreWhen I asked the waiter to give my compliments to the chef he said 'the chef is my brother, so I will tell him it was average'. This exchange sums up the charm of Dantes. A restaurant named after the father of their current brilliant staff Dantes provides the family atmosphere and warmth you would expect from the best of Italy.
I sampled a large portion of their menu by having a half portion of their pasta to make it a traditional four courses. All were superb. A particular highlight for me was the halibut. The freshness of the fish was highlighted by the perfection it was cooked with. The other highlight was the sticky toffee pudding. Still made by the families mum because no one can make it quite like her, the pudding was perfection.
This restaurant is a gem. If you are at all in the local area this should be your place to go for any celebration or simply a delightful meal. I will...
Read moreA visit to Dantes Restaurant in Colinton Village was not planned but as we were passing, after a walk through The Dell we thought we would pop in for some lunch.
We were not disappointed and glad we stopped. Dantes offer many dishes on their menu and also provide a two course fixed price lunch at weekends for £12.00 each.
We ordered one soup of the day and one Bruschetta to start and then followed this with a Spaghetti Toscana and a portion of Penne Con Pesto. In addition to the 2 course fixed lunch we also ordered desserts of one Panna Cotta and a Tiramisu.
All the dishes were very tasty, decent sized portions and very hot which is what we like. The desserts were very flavoursome and well presented also. This was all washed down with a nice bottle of Sangiovese.
The service was great and Pedro the manager looked after us well. Thank you we will...
