I cycled to this café on 20/10/20. There are a large number of tables outdoors and some of them are covered by umbrellas. There are also tables inside. There is plenty of bicycle parking. You have to go inside the café to order. There is a QR code you have to scan which takes you to the cafes website where you put in your details for track and trace. According to the website after 21 days your details will be destroyed. The staff are wearing masks which is pleasing. There are your usual selection of hot drinks available as well as a selection of cakes and traybakes. I had a tea and a Caramel and Sea Salt dark chocolate bar which was tasty. I arrived at 13:40 and although the café is meant to close at 14:00 they let you sit outside and finish what you're having after the 14:00 closing time. Dogs are allowed in the outdoor area of this café and there is a bowl with water in it that they can drink out of. The staff do not spray tables outside after people have left. Instead there is a station with sanitiser on where you can get the stuff to clean the table you're planning on sitting at if you wish.
In conclusion, this is a great café which has a large outdoor seating area and is great...
Read moreCame here for breakfast because the place we wanted to go to was busy. I personally found the menu a bit strange and struggled to find something I would actually like to eat. We eventually opted for granola (my wife), smoked salmon focaccia (me) two black coffees and a croissant (me). The croissant was stale (this allowed me to justifiably partake in my dreadful habit of dunking croissants in coffee). Regardless, stale is not acceptable. My wife said the granola was okay. My focaccia was okay and came with an unexciting mixed leaf salad. However, the smoked salmon seemed a bit odd. It had a similar texture to Serrano Ham (dry and chewy). Maybe it was a type of trendy smoked salmon I had never heard of - quite hard to eat though. Probably won't come here again. It's too expensive for what you end up with...
Read moreThis excellent health forward breakky lunch cafe is a great reward for all those who persevere in finding it tucked away, actually hidden, below the Newhaven Sculpture Centre off Hawthornevale Road. Star of the all day menu is the chicken souvlaki plate with seasoned chicken slices, tomato, feta and the most tender and tasty roasted potatoes that pop with creamy unctuous unexpected flavor and texture. We recently had the parsley and leek soup which revealed the chefs knowing and deft hand with coaxing the best umami out of the humble leek. Great coffees and cakes, the latter emphasizing healthfulness without diminishing taste rounds out the experience. Added bonus: watch and maybe meet sculptors and artists working on their projects or taking their...
