Unprofessional service. I understand it was a Friday night, so waiting in line is not a problem. But when the girl behind the bar couldn’t process a simple order for about ten minutes, it was just too much.
We were paying in cash, gave her a £50 note, and she gave us change as if we had given her £10. My boyfriend told her that he had given £50, not £10, but she insisted it was £10 at first. Then she realised it was her mistake, asked another bartender, and he told her that they don’t even accept £50 notes. The problem is that she had already processed the transaction. So they returned the cash, and we had to pay by card.
I ordered a draught cider, which is supposed to be on tap. The bartender disappeared somewhere with my glass for a while, then came back. My boyfriend noticed that she was pouring it from a box from the fridge. When she returned, I asked if it was draught or from a box, and she said it was from a box. I told her that she should have informed me. I came to a bar to order cider on tap, not boxed or bottled cider that I can buy at any supermarket.
On top of that, I once had an unpleasant experience at the same Wetherspoon pub when my friend and I ordered boxed Whisky Cask cider (they warned us that time), and both of us felt sick and ended up vomiting later that evening. That’s another reason why I don’t want to drink cider from a box.
I told her that I hadn’t touched the drink—she put it on the bar in front of me, and it stayed there untouched. I said I didn’t want it because she hadn’t warned me. She asked someone else and came back saying that because we had already paid for it, nothing could be done.
In the end, I just took it and tasted it at my own risk, but it wasn’t even fizzy—completely flat.
I never write bad reviews, but this experience really disappointed me. It took too much time, I had a bus to catch, so I didn’t ask for the manager, but this is unacceptable.
I don’t know the name of the girl who served us, but it happened on Friday 11/07/25 (today) between 22:10 and 22:20. She was quite short, with winged eyeliner, a fringe, and had a pimple patch...
Read moreThe Booking Office is a good restaurant in the heart of Edinburgh by Waverley station. There is loads of space for large and small groups to enjoy and its a good restaurant if you have kids with all the space!
The Staff: The staff are friendly and approachable. They are accomodating to any changes that you may need. They let you order from the bar if you have trouble ordering from your phone.
The Food: I ordered the Mixed Grill and the Haggis with Whiskey sauce. The mixed grill was good, plenty of food and the haggis was delicious. The sauce had a hint of whiskey and it wasn't overpowering.
Location: It is located right beside Waverley Station. Its a busy restaurant with a lot of foot traffic passing by. Once you are finished you are only a short walk from all the tourist attractions that Edinburgh has to offer!
Layout & Decor: The main area of the restaurant has a lot of seating between raised tables and low down seating. The main seating area of the restaurant is located in the middle and there also seating areas of to both sides of the main area. There is a bar located in the center area if the restaurant and they have a large variety of options to choose from!
Wheelchair Accessibility: There was no steps entering the premises to the best of my memory. The seating areas have plenty of room for wheelchairs to pass through and the chairs can be moved. I am not sure if there is a wheelchair friendly bathroom here.
Overall Opinion: The Booking Office is a clean and tidy premises with good food and reasonable prices! It is definitely a good spot for lunch or dinner and there is a great...
Read moreOn the night of September 23rd, I visited this pub at Waverley Bridge, Edinburgh, as a tourist. Unfortunately, my experience was extremely disappointing. A staff member, who later claimed to be the “manager,” spent a long time chatting with another employee while I was left waiting for service. The conversation in question was not work-related; they were just laughing and joking. When I asked to place an order, he told me I had to wait because I interrupted his conversation. At that moment, he was not serving any customers, only talking to his colleague. When I asked how much longer I would need to wait, he responded rudely. When I tried to order from another staff member, he told them not to serve me. I was shocked by such behavior, yet he continued to speak to me disrespectfully. When I asked for his name to file a complaint, he claimed that as the manager, he could decide who to serve or not to serve. Other staff members refused to give me his name—most likely out of fear of his bullying behavior. Whenever I tried to speak, he tried to silence me again. This treatment was both discriminatory and disrespectful. As a customer, I felt humiliated. It is disappointing that a brand like Wetherspoon allows such a “manager” to behave this way, damaging the reputation of the company. I am sharing my experience so that other customers do not go through the same mistreatment. I truly hope the company reminds its staff that this type of behavior towards customers is...
