Sorry for not explaining my review straight away in case you want to improve. Here my reasons: -Mac and cheese were in my opinion overpriced for the size of the portion. -My husbands chicken wings were not really seasoned, just naked wings with a bit of sauce on it, and quiet a small amount of sauce. -there was a TV which just showed random stuff like news(no sound), just pictures which I honestly don’t want to see (and guess what they are saying) during a visit at a pub to have a nice afternoon. I rather have no TV at all, as it always takes at least a bit of attention whatever it shows(attention away from your time with the ones you are there with). I get it that you should just ignore it, but for some people that might be harder than for others. If you choose a pub to watch sports it’s a different story. -One more thing, but that is apparently in whole Edinburgh the case, is the lack of any none alcoholic beer on tap. We didn’t find one pub during our visit, and we looked at a few. You would think in 2025 pubs also in Edinburgh would start getting one none alcoholic choice on tap. And on tap makes a big difference to a can or bottle!
I want to point out that it was not as bad as it first might sound and I’m sorry for this, the pub itself seems quiet nice and if it wouldn’t be for the points above I think we could have had a good time. And I changed it to 3 stars now, as 2 would have been really harsh, sorry for that! I hope that all makes sense and...
Read moreNestled on a bustling pedestrian street, this charming little pub exudes an inviting Scottish atmosphere that immediately captivates visitors.
I ventured in with my two nephews, eager to sample a selection of local delicacies. We ordered an assortment of favorites, including the crispy Haggis Fritters, the savory Scotchegg, and a generous portion of chips (fries, as we Americans call them). I requested a drizzle of rich gravy, and the kitchen happily obliged. Trust me, that gravy truly brings the dish together in a delightful way.
Our food arrived promptly, and I was pleasantly surprised by its enticing presentation. The Haggis Fritters, served as a light appetizer with two pieces, were perfectly crisp on the outside, their delicate flavor enhanced by a luscious Whisky Sauce that complemented them beautifully. The Scotchegg was another highlight-each egg was encased in a golden-brown crust, with the sausage lining being tender and flavorful. Finally, the chips were fried to perfection, golden and crispy, while the warm gravy acted as a comforting blanket on top, elevating them to a whole new level of deliciousness.
The staff was friendly and attentive, ensuring our experience was pleasant throughout.
This is exactly the kind of picturesque Scottish pub I had envisioned, especially on a...
Read moreThis happened 2 years ago but I still think about it and upsets me so I thought I would finally write a review especially after seeing Simona's review below.
I was meant to be meeting someone for the first time on a date outside the station, I was early and it started torrential raining. There was literally a river running down the street. So I thought I would go into the pub for a small white wine to take cover and calm my nerves. I was asked for ID and unfortunately I did not have any on me. I apologised and asked for just for a coke instead and the bar lady told me that I could no longer be on the premises for not having ID when asked and she directed me to the door - back out into the rain.
I know you have the right to ask me to leave premises but for someone who obviously isnt there to get drunk - it was midday, I ordered a small class of wine, I couldnt look more innocent if i tried and I obviously just wanted to get out the rain AND obviously over 18 (I was 25, now 27). I can't see any law which requires you have to order me off the premises so I just think the bar lady must be simply get a buzz by being able to do this sort of thing. You could of atleast offered me the shelter until the rain calmed, I was going to be a...
