I will start by saying Dr chippys has been a family favourite of ours for a good while now for fish and chips in Colchester. However, recently they seem to have a few newer, younger employees, and the guy serving us today was a real pain.
Forget customer service, it felt like basic decency and manners were blasted into outer space. Having given this youngster a basic order to comply with to season the fish and chips with salt and vinegar, he decided to be clever instead as he realised we weren't watching and that we had left them with the order whilst we went off to do some shopping. So what was his genius masterplan? To leave us with salt and vinegar sachets!
I can't begin to describe the confusion and frustration having walked all the way back with our order to the car only to realise we had plain, unseasoned fish and chips. If we wanted that, we'd have paid far less from the frozen section in Sainsburys.
So obviously, as any customer would do, we took our bags of bland fish and chips back and complained to the youngster and demanded he opens our order back up and seasoned as he was told, which is the bare minimum we expected. He proceeded to reject our request again and make a plethora of excuses. To summarise in short, he said we're busy and we took advantage of the fact that you weren't here, because it's easier for us to chuck some sachets in.
As a customer, this isn't nice as we are paying for a service and we tried to push him into seasoning it but he wasn't going to budge. Surely it can't take long to pour salt and vinegar on fish and chips? Render me stunned.
I did think of speaking to the manager later, who we've known for a while who has always been really nice to us to the point that he'd kindly throw extra food into our order without us even asking, but didn't think of it at the time. He would definitely have seasoned our fish and chips without hesitation and probably apologised too, unlike this youngster who couldn't even bother to do that.
Not only that, the fish was also very oily. Recently on a previous order the fish and chips were also dry and tasted like they weren't fresh.
We love eating at Dr Chippys, but not sure that's the case anymore. Hopefully basic customer service can be...
Read moreI rate this place a zero but that's not a option. I ordered a chicken burger and chips and got given a tandoori chicken breast burger and a few chips in a burger box. My partner asked for a savaloy, battered sausage and chips with curry sauce. His sauce was of water consistent and he couldn't even dip his chips in and has to drink it. His savaloy was cold inside and looked like it had been in a fight with Tyson. I asked if we had salt and vinegar on our chips and we were told yes but when opened no salt and vinegar had been put on. Never again will I buy food of any kind from this place. I already have a tummy ache. Poor service run by people who clearly don't care bout the food they are serving. Good English tradional food gone wrong. This place used to be the best place in town to get chips from and had the best service. I expect as a walk in to get served first if I've been first in there not to wait and que behind several other customers and watch them get...
Read moreGroup of us (5) went here on Monday night (10th March) prior to a concert at the Arts Centre - were extremely pleased with the quality of the food (4x Fish & Chips, 1x Pie & Chips) and size of the portions (2 of our group had the “Over 60 special”, and one member couldn’t finish it..!) - the chips were perfect, crisp outside & fluffy inside, and the fish was cooked to perfection, with crisp batter (not greasy, either..👍). We also had some bread & butter, which actually came with REAL BUTTER, not margarine which most places tend to give you - another major plus👍! We’d driven to Colchester from Leigh on Sea and Wickford, so unfortunately it’s a bit far to go on a regular basis, but if we’re back in the area again we’d definitely come back to Dr. Chippy’s, and we have no hesitation in...
