I have been an frequenter of the Hole in the Wall for quite some time now, but I feel this is going to change now. The last time I went in, there was a sign saying 'under new management,' but this didn't bother me. What did bother me was the lack of any live music, which was almost always a given on a Saturday night, there were signs saying football was being shown on telly now (which never happened,) and as myself and my friends went to order drinks, the person behind the bar quite abruptly said "don't bother ordering drinks, as we're closing." This was at 12am!
To cut a long story short, The Hole in the Wall has now, in my eyes, lost it's charm and character it once has, and has now just become another bog-standard...
Read moreNot quite sure what to make of this pub. Have been here several times over the years but not for about 15 years. Recent visit in July 2019 reminded me why I don’t visit often. On the positive side, really nice beer on tap. Also, the beer garden outside is a really nice space. On the negative side, the place is looking tired and dirty. Hip hop music being played was quite annoying (I appreciate this might by my personal taste but not a fan of club music in pubs). This place has so much potential but fails to realize it. Read moreWe had a mid week visit so it was rather quiet. Small choice of real ales, not all on top form! Given the location of this pub it seams to attract a younger student crowd. Four empty cans found at our table... On a Wednesday. Pool table availability, small beer garden. Toilets upstairs and nearby parking at St Mary's multi storey. Situated opposite Mercury theatre and nearby Arts Centre so great venue for Pre show drinks. Often have student music nights eg drum & bass and later opening hours on a weekend.
