Knight Pavilion Restaurant — Restaurant in Colchester

Feeling very ripped off! Compeled to leave a bad review to deter people from making the same mistake as me. I've tried practically every Chinese in the area, and this is easily the worst and the most expensive by a landslide, my normal order would tend to be around £20, and I paid £33 for this place so the expectation was high and I was happy to pay the extra this once. My order was Salt And Chilli Chips - which arrived in a tin that felt the weight of a feather (alarm bell) opened them up to see, quite literally a handful of thin oven style chips with about a table spoon of pea sized bits of pepper and onion. Kung Po Chicken, which was very small, very poor quality pieces of wet chicken not in batter (it did have peanuts though) which is how Kung Po should be, but overall it was just a load of poor quality meat in a vineger'y sweet and sour sauce with large chunks of dried chilli mixed in. A chicken Chow Mein which was edible, but again for £9.20 you would expect a lot more than thin noodles with a miniscule amount of onion in it. Do not go here, if it was cheap and cheerful prices, you could say you get what you pay for, but the prices are PREMIUM and I didn't even want to eat it....

We have just moved to the area and was looking for a new Chinese.

Knight Pavilion looked and sounded nice, we did notice it was quite expensive but hoped that would mean high quality and decent portion sizes, unfortunately it didn't.

Review by item; Mixed starter platter for 2 - lacking in portion size dramatically, for £16 you only get 2 of each item listed vs the 4 of each in the photos, abit misleading and also primarily bland. S&S Battered chicken - okay. Crispy shredded beef - okay. Egg fried rice - bland. Noodles - majority was beansprouts. Salt Chili Chips - okay but lacking in portion size. Curry Sauce - okay, but also quite bland.

For our order, which totaled £60, we incorrectly assumed prawn crackers would also be included like every other Chinese we have tried. Not a big issue but doesn't look very good for the price paid.

Again, we would not order again or recommend...

Best Chinese restaurant in Colchester! Especially, I love the staff's friendly and polite attitude. It makes this restaurant special!

The inside is beautifully decorated and the atmosphere is really good! I could relax and felt really comfortable. We tried chicken and Ram BBQ, Stir fried pork with green onions, and fried spring roll. The BBQ is perfectly flavored with spice! You will love it❤ Also stir fried pork melt in my mouth and it stimulates your appetite more☺ Spring roll was perfect. Easy size to eat and the outside is crispy but inside is juicy!
