We stopped in to Timbers before popping home, greeted quickly by the staff who were very friendly and approachable. Cafe is tidy and clean, and there is plenty of options on the menu including options for the kids that are not all just '...and chips' options! Also they are very accomodating in swapping things in / out, which was great for the kids meals.

The food came quickly (with kids meals first - as they should) and it was well presented. I had gone for the all day breakfast, with the wife going for the curry. In terms of the all day breakfast the black pudding was a little over cooked (crunchy) and I had to actually ask if it came with Sausages.. which it turns out was forgotten! They quickly returned with said sausages, so resolved - but always nice if you don't have to ask in the first place. I noticed my wife hadn't eaten much of the chicken in her curry - I tried a bit and despite being in tikka masala sauce it was really dry, not nice at all. On bright side my young 'un enjoyed his kids lasagne! Three of us had milkshakes, opting for the ice cream version but whilst they weren't bad, I didn't think they tasted much like an ice cream milkshake...

All in all it was an OK experience and price seemed reasonable, just a shame about some of the food related issues, hopefully it...

Whilst visiting family in Colchester , it has become 'A Thing'! that we go to Timber's for Breakfast. We travel down from Preston in Lancashire, I'm originally from Colchester myself & we travel back down a number of time's during the year. To see my daughter & granddaughters. We arrived in Colchester on Saturday early afternoon on this occasion & before checking into our accommodation in Elmsted decided to call in for a meal. As always the food was delicious, my fiancé & I had the cottage pie, our son who was with us to visit his sister & niece's. Had the pork burger which he throughly enjoyed. The building itself is quite a lovely old Tudor building, the staff are welcoming, professional & attentive. We then went to Timber's again this morning for breakfast. Which was equally delicious, we find the food & service to alway's be consistently good. Can't wait to come back to Colchester in April & back at Timber's again. Thank you so much to all the staff. Kind regards from Janessa,...

I used to visit many times per week for double egg, beans and chips for £5.20. Then I had my teeth out and had to switch to mashed potato. As different members of staff didn't know the price to charge for mashed potato it kept changing. Eventually I asked them to get a set price for my double egg, beans and mash; when turned up I was given the price of £5.50; Given that eggs were 90p each same as the beans, this set the mashed potato at £2.80, making it 30p more than the chips. So I went and ate at Jenkins Cafe instead, receiving bigger portions of mash and beans and paying £1.50 less on the total price. Generally the food is good at Timbers but nothing special and the prices are average maybe slightly more. I could have awarded 3 stars but I feel the owner over priced the above mentioned order considering the portion size and my regular custom. I left my contact number for the owner if she wanted to discuss it but she didn't - hence the...

Stopped here for breakfast On a short break to Colchester … food was fantastic but service was a little strange, asked for no tomato or mushrooms on my fry up and that I would like extra black pudding instead (that I was charged extra for), but was told they could not do that, they kindly served them on a side plate so it would not contaminate my breakfast but I obviously just left them to be thrown away, very odd ! The lady on the table next to us said she was a vegan and that she didn’t like tomato and the same waitress offered to swap for an extra fried egg instead. We won’t be back, shame as the food was delicious.

First visit, used Groupon Voucher. Had issues trying to book both on the Groupon Reservation Platform and the Web Site, but e mailed venue and they called me back. Internal decor is pretty basic, but good selection of dishes available, even though slightly restricted menu using voucher. We both selected the Steak & Ale Pie, which was a great choice, beef was tender and delicious tasting. We both enjoyed our afters, I went for the Apple Crumble and Custard and my DW went for the Chocolate Brownie and Ice Cream, both received top marks. Great value for money, and can see why this is a very popular informal venue.
