We dined at Hook twice during our stay and became obsessed with their mussels — truly the standout dish here. We tried both flavors and preferred the classic white wine and parsley over the lemongrass, ginger, and chili. The mussels were incredibly fresh, plump, and naturally sweet. I would return to this restaurant just for that dish alone. The tomato risotto was bright and punchy — intensely tomato-forward with a nice touch of sweetness for balance. I wasn’t a fan of the olives, but the feta complemented the dish well. The bouillabaisse “Hook style” was less successful. The broth was overly salty and very concentrated in flavor. While the fish itself was fresh, the squid and prawns were just average. It was enjoyable at first but became too heavy to finish as a main. The miso-glazed cauliflower was a highlight — well balanced, with a delicate mix of miso and tahini nuttiness. I would definitely order this again. For the fish of the day (monkfish), the fish was beautifully fresh and cooked perfectly, though the curry flavoring didn’t do it justice. A simpler lemon-butter preparation would have better highlighted the quality of the fish. Overall: Hook serves high-quality seafood with moments of brilliance — particularly the mussels and miso cauliflower — though not every dish lands perfectly. The ingredients are fresh and handled with care, but seasoning and balance can be hit or miss. Overall: Excellent seafood and memorable dishes, with minor inconsistencies keeping it from perfection. I would make a point to dine here again if I’m in the area!

All the staff at the front and kitchen took our dairy allergy very seriously. They gave us a customised menu that lists all dairy free dishes, which was amazing and it never happened to us at any other hotels or restaurants before. As we dined several times for breakfast and dinner during our hotel stay, the staff checked with each other each time to be very sure that our dishes remained dairy free. They made mushed custom-made dinners and breakfast with no dairy-allergen for our baby. We really appreciated this as baby could eat fresh meals during our stay (not the usual back-up baby food pouches). Thank you so much for looking after us!

Portion sizes are good and improved (I am guessing) since the older reviews mentioned smaller ones. The chefs are great and are willing to make simple customisations to items like no oil in the omelette as we ate here for two dinners and two breakfasts, which are a major plus. We felt the prawn dish can be improved if they came de-shelled as it’s quite messy trying to do it yourself.

Obviously this is only our opinion, we did not enjoy. On arrival excellent warm welcome and cannot fault the service it was excellent. Oysters to pre start, lovely. Smoked haddock scotch egg was ok but i have tasted better and smoked chicken liver parfait. My wife could not eat the chicken liver parfait smell and texture she did not like. Mains, I went for the rump steak which again ok, my wife went for the chicken breast but did not want what came with it, so ordered breast on its own with seasonal greens and sweet potato fries. The steak was served to me and the chicken breast was served to my wife on its own it looked like an over cooked sausage and then the fries and greens arrived, my wife did enjoy the breast and sweet potato fries. We had a fantastic meal the night before at a gastro pub and i think we were expecting even more from Hook. For us it did not deliver. But we...

Unfortunately we left before we were even served!

We walked over here from our nearby village to enjoy a drink on a Saturday night.

The place was empty with only 3 other tables. We went up to the bar to order some drinks but were told right away that it’s table service only and they will come to us. We went and sat down, waiting another 15 minutes before going and asking once more, to be told again that they will come to us. Another 10 minutes and we gave up unfortunately, not wanting to give our money to a company that makes no effort or seems to want it!

Being in this industry myself this is such poor service, especially for the price and high value they try to portray.

Sad end to what could have been a fantastic evening!...
