Location good, food is OK although the website says breakfast is included it isn't! Pleasant staff.
First night heavy thump, thump music from the courtyard until 11:30 pm and then half an hour of rowdies leaving. 06:30 woken up by beer kegs being dragged off a delivery lorry and across to the pub.
Second night, thump, thump until 11:00 PM, and another 30 minutes of rowdies leaving.
Third night, loud, really loud music still going at midnight. I got dressed, half a dozen locals in the beer garden, no special event and presumably no special licence to still be playing at that late hour. Had a "loud" word with the manager, the music went straight off. 12:45 am before the rowdies left all chuntering about me.
We were so annoyed, we packed up and left in the rarly hours
It seems they play loud music, and I mean loud almost every night, they must be a neighbor from hell and no thoughts about guests staying.
Bathroom has black mould inside and out, cobwebs in the bathroom and bedroom, broken toilet seat and no WiFi in the room at all. TV OK but can't stream.
Parking for two cars, one is taken permanently taken by a staff member so realistically it's street parking unless you get the one space. To be fair, we did reserve it.
Stay away, their senior management seem more interested in drinking with...
Read moreThis place must be under new ownership as it has a totally different vibe to the last time we were there. Actually - it has no vibe at all!! A) staff looked bloody miserable and like all the joy had been sucked out. Could barely utter a word. There was no atmosphere of happiness in the pub at all tbh. B) Food was probably the worst we’ve ever had at a pub. Curry was watery - it said on menu it comes with a naan but instead I got a burnt popadom! Asked where naan was, said it doesn’t come with one. I only ate it as I was starving having been at work all day. My wife debated about having nachos, we all laughed and told her ‘ you can’t go wrong with nachos’. Apparently this pub can! How the hell can you serve cardboard thick, burnt crisps with the wateriest salsa, and something we assumed was cheese (could hardly tell as there was hardly anything on there). No pride at all. It summed up point a - depressing! They didn’t come out to ask how the food was - assume because they know it’s terrible.
We came here with a friend who was down during her trip as I went there a couple of times a year ago - thought it was a safe bet. safe to say we won’t be coming back again. Give your...
Read moreIm guessing the rooms at Red Lion vary quite a bit. It’s a nice historic Inn, and we appreciated that, but we’ll seek a different lodging next time. |1. Our room was fine, but only 1 or 2 meters from the street. Noisiest place we stayed in our week along Cotswold Way.|2. The only request we had when booking was to be assured of good Wifi (alas, we may travel with phones off, but must check in with obligations at home). We were assured, incorrectly. WiFi was available only in the lobby/pub area, and that area was locked at night and in the morning. |3. We were told breakfast is included, and at the time of check-in, they “booked” us for breakfast, but in the morning, there was none. We walked out and got coffee and pastry elsewhere, returned, waited, but there was no breakfast, no coffee, the tavern/pub area remained empty and dark. Obviously they did not intend to provide it. In the end, there are not many options for lodging in Chipping Campden, so that’s why we booked there, and we did love the week of walking village to village, so we may end up there again, but we won’t count on WiFi or...
