The young Australian waitress did a good job — she was friendly, attentive, and clearly made an effort to provide good service. Unfortunately, aside from her, the overall experience was rather average.
The food was okay, but not particularly memorable. Given the price point, the portions felt small and not generous. Our starters were forgotten by the kitchen (though the waitress had definitely placed the order), but to their credit, they were removed from the bill without issue.
The atmosphere felt somewhat stiff. What further disrupted the experience was that as soon as guests started leaving, the staff began spraying cleaning products on nearby tables — even while we were still eating just a few feet away. Since no new guests were being seated (it was the last round of the evening), this seemed unnecessary and unpleasant.
One final note: I understand that restaurants struggle with no-shows, but this place takes reservation confirmation to an extreme. We had to confirm twice through OpenTable, then received a personal email , followed by a phone call the day of. When we arrived, the waitress had to go from table to table checking names and confirming reservations in person — which felt excessive and frankly disruptive to the dining atmosphere.
All in all, there are at least two nicer dinner options directly in town that offer a more relaxed and...
Read moreThe Afternoon Tea we had was very disappointing, equalled by the service we received. We had to wait some time to be served while the place was literally empty.
We called ahead with dietry requirements that, while not complex, were not recorded so it resulted in an awkward conversation with the waitress about what the ingredients were for each item.
She seemed completely flustered by our questions and we never saw her again until I had to hunt someone down so we could pay the bill.
The food didn't taste fresh, the cakes tasted stale and the macaroons were a very bad batch. Crunchier than kettle chips!. We are used to having our sandwiches renewed at other Afternoon Teas but here we were never even given the option to ask.
It felt like the 1 waitress we had was pulled away from serving the 4 different Afternoon Tea groups to wait on the bar while nobody replaced her.
Overall a very poor experience. I'm sure the other restaurant in the hotel is better, that's where the staff...
Read moreAdorable cafe, and definitely a diamond in the ruff! According to the lady at the next table over, these are the best scones in southern England, and although my scone expertise is not as extensive as hers, they were delicious. The tea was excellent, too, and the staff was friendly (and knowledgeable on the correct order of clotted cream, jam, etc.). The scones were massive and each order came with two scones and a large pot of tea, so with four of us we only needed two orders. I wish I could go back a...
